L E L L h C) cc N- DIVISION 16 - ELECTRICAL WORK 16000.0 GENERAL ELECTRICAL CONDITIONS .1 Conform to the general conditions, supplementary conditions and related work in other divisions for all work in Division 16. See Division 1 for sequence of work. .2 WORK INCLUDED: It is the intent of this division of the specifications and accompanying drawings to describe and provide for the furnishings, installing, testing and placing in satisfactory and successful operation all equipment, materials, devices and necessary appurtenances to provide a complete electrical system, together with such other miscellaneous Installations and equipment hereinafter specified and/or shown in the plans. The work shall include all materials, appliances and apparatus not specifically mentioned herein or noted on the plans, but which are necessary to make a complete working installation of all electrical systems shown on the plans or described herein. Equipment and devices furnished and installed under other divisions of this specification (or by the owner) shall be collected under this division. The drawings and specifications are complimentary and what is called for in either is binding as if called for in both. By submitting a bid the contractor is acknowledging that he/she has made a thorough examination of the contract documents, existing site and building conditions, and has determined that these documents do sufficiently describe the scope of construction work required under this contract. .3 SCOPE OF BASIC BID: Included in Division 16 is all work and related items necessary to provide all electrical installations except as specifically excluded. In general, this includes all labor, equipment, tools, sub -contractors (skilled trades, licenses, permits, programmers, etc), required to complete the electrical work. .4 DEFINITIONS: a. PROVIDE shall be interpreted as to furnish and install. b. FURNISH shall be interpreted as to purchase and deliver to the site ready for installation, protected from the elements and from vandalism and theft. c. INSTALL shall be interpreted as to make ready for use AND to make complete and operational. .5 PROTECTION The contractor shall store and guard all equipment before installation and shall protect same and shall replace any equipment that has been damaged prior to final acceptance. 16010.0 GENERAL PROVISIONS: Provide complete and fully operational all electrical systems specified and/or shown on the plans, along with power connections to equipment furnished under other divisions of the specifications. .1 Codes: Conform and Comply with the following codes and standards as presently applicable: d. 2017 National Electrical Code e. Washington Administrative Code (WAC) latest edition and applicable WAC codes & regulations f. NFPA 72 g. ANSI/BICSI/T1A/EIT Cabling & communications standards. h. All State and local codes, ordinances and regulations .2 Permits and Fees: Obtain and pay for all required licenses, permits and inspections. The contractor shall obtain and pay for all licenses, permits and inspections required by laws, ordinances and rules governing work specified herein. The contractor shall arrange for inspection of the work by the inspectors and shall give the inspectors all necessary assistance in their work of inspection. The contractor shall consult with and follow the requirements of the local fire, power, telephone/data and television utilities serving the area and shall coordinate his work with them. Utility connection and hook-up charges for power, telephone/data and television shall be paid by the owner directly to the utility. The electrical contractor is required to provide any and all coordination necessary to support the utility connection, file for application of service (or assist the owner in filing for application of service) and coordinate dates for service with the utilities. .3 Materials: Shall be new and each type of material furnished shall be of the same make and shall be the standard products of manufacturers, regularly engaged in the production of such materials and shall be the manufacturer's latest standard design. All materials and equipment installed, including light fixtures shall have been tested and listed by Underwriters Laboratories or other Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory and shall be so labeled in accordance with OSHPD code application notice 3-110-2. .4 Warranty. Provide a written warranty that the division 16 work is free from mechanical and electrical defects. Contractor shall replace and repair, to the satisfaction of the engineer, any part of the installation which may fail within a period of twelve months after the certificate of final acceptance. .5 Contract Drawings: The electrical drawings are intended to serve as working drawings for general layout. The equipment layout is diagrammatic and unless specifically dimensioned or detailed, does not indicate all fittings, hardware or appurtenances required for a complete operating installation. Anything shown on the drawings but not covered in the specifications, or anything show in the specifications but not covered on the drawings shall be as if covered and shown in both. In case of conflict between the drawings and specifications, the engineer shall select the method/product and installation thereof. The contractor shall be responsible for verifying all measurements before proceeding with the work. Wiring diagrams are not intended to indicate the exact course of raceways or exact location of equipment. Raceway and outlet/device locations are approximately correct and are subject to revision as may be necessary or desirable at the time of installation. Precise location in every case shall be subject to the engineer's approval. .6 Record Drawings: One (1) full print set at the job site, kept continually updated. Submit to Architect at completion of project. .7 Maintenance Manuals: Complete for every system. Hardboard covers with 3 ring binders. 16050.0 EXISTING SYSTEMS .1 Existing Systems Maintained: Maintain existing systems in operation during construction. Visit the site prior to bid to verify existing conditions, demolition work and new work required. Any existing wiring serving devices to remain in service and which is interrupted by work performed under this contract shall be rerouted to maintain circuit continuity. Include all costs in bid. .2 Existing Systems Concealed: The electrical drawings show portions of the existing electrical systems which are to remain, be removed or be modified as a part of the Contractor's work. Concealed features of the existing systems are derived from record drawings and the Engineers best judgment of the configuration, but no guarantee is made as to their correctness. The Contractor shall inspect the existing installation prior to bidding and shall make his own judgment as to the work required to provide a complete installation and demolition within the intent of the contract documents. .3 Existing Circuits: The drawings show portions of the existing electrical system derived from the existing record drawings which are incomplete and no guarantee is made to their correctness. Prior to the start of construction the contractor shall perform a circuit verification test of the existing receptacles shown on the electrical drawings utilizing a circuit tracer. This information shall be marked up on a copy of the contract drawings and forwarded be corrected so that the contract drawings can to the engineer q, tilized. At the same to show the actual circuit numbers to be u time the circuits listed as "Existing Circuit" on the panel schedules shall be traced out and the actual room number and load name and wattage identified on a marked up copy of the panel schedule and forwarded to the engineer. .4 Materials: Existing materials and equipment removed as part of this work may not be reinstalled unless specifically noted on the drawings. Existing materials not to be reinstalled unless selected for retention by the Owner, which then shall be delivered to a location on the premises selected by the Owner. .5 Demolition: Electrical devices, lighting fixtures, and raceway systems within the project area that are no longer in use as a result of this contract shall be removed unless otherwise noted to remain or be reinstalled. .6 Power Outages: Schedule electrical system(s) outages with the Owner at least 48 hours prior to proposed outage.. Electrical system(s) outage to Owner occupied areas shall not be permitted from 7:00a.m. to 6:00p.m. on any day of the week. Premium time shall be included in the Base Bid for electrical system(s) outages and for other work as required by the schedule or other Divisions of the specifications. 16100.0 BASIC MATERIALS AND METHODS: Includes general requirements for materials and installation methods, cutting building construction, painting, clean-up, and workmanship. .1 Substitutions: Shall be reviewed by the Engineer for approval/rejection prior to bid. .2 Workmanship: Shall be of the best quality and performed by experienced electricians under supervision of an experienced foreman. .3 Submittals: After award of contract submit three common bound brochures (one copy returned to Contractor) containing catalog cuts and/or shop drawings for the following items: Wiring Devices Motor Starters Disconnects and Fused Switches Lighting Fixtures and ballasts .4 Cutting and Patching: Do not cut structural members. All construction materials damaged or cut into during the installation of this work must be repaired or replaced with materials by skilled labor experienced in that particular building trade. .5 Pointing: Repaint any electrical items scratched or marred in shipment or installation. .6 Clean Up: Continually remove debris, cuttings, crates, cartons, etc. Carefully clean wiring devices, cover plates, light fixtures, etc., to remove paint and plaster, etc. 16110.0 RACEWAYS: Provide raceway system complete and in conformance with code. Install raceways concealed in construction for all areas unless exposed raceways are specifically shown. .1 Interior Raceways: Electrical metallic tubing (EMT) with steel compression or set screw fittings. Indentor, drive -on and pressure cost on die cast type set screw fittings are not acceptable. Unless otherwise noted 1/2" minimum. Flexible Raceways: Galvanized flexible steel conduit for dry locations. Maximum length 6 feet in any ground return path. Not permitted for emergency system wiring. .2 Surface Metal Raceway. Formed steel type. Standard factory painted finish. Provide for all exposed raceways in finished areas, install parallel to a building surface (i.e. wall, ceiling, floor). .3 Raceway Penetrations: Penetrations through fire rated construction shall be sealed using 3M CP-25 Fire Barrier Caulk UL listed system No. WL1001 16120.0 CONDUCTORS AND TERMINATIONS: Provide all wire and cable complete. .1 Copper, insulated for 600V. Outlet boxes shall be firmly anchored to wall studs, cut in boxes ore not permitted. Verify actual requirements prior to ordering fixtures. .2 Fixture Support: Provide two #14 earthquake chains or #9 wire secured (at diagonally opposite fixture corners) to structural members above suspended ceiling for each recessed fluorescent fixture. .3 Provide lighting system(s) commisioning per the 2017 Washington State Energy Code (WSEC) Provide lighting control (timeclocks, occupancy sensors, photocells, etc.) adjustments and training to the owner per WSEC as required, refer to WSEC 408.3 for requirements. 16721.0 FIRE ALARM SYSTEM: Provide a zoned, non -coded, annunciated fire detection and alarm system that fully complies with federal, state and local fire codes. The system shall be an extension of the core and shell building system which is an addressable system. If any conflict occurs between government adopted code rules and these contract documents, the codes are to govern. .1 Operation: Activation of any initiation device shall immediately cause all fire alarm speakers to sound a continuous chime tone signal, visual alarm lights to flash, release smoke barrier doors, illuminate the zone annunciator light, transmit an alarm to the fire department. Air handling equipment affecting the zone of the fire to be automatically shutdown only when activated by the smoke detector located in the supply air duct downstream of the filters. .2 Supervision: The system shall be supervised to sound an audible and visual trouble signal upon the occurrence of any open or grounded circuits. Provide a separate indicator lamp for each zone. .3 Sprinkler System Monitoring: Coordinate with the sprinkler system subcontractor and provide circuits and annunciation as required by the AHJ to supervise PIV, OSY gate valve positions and water flow switches. . 4 Contractor Design: Raceways, routing and system wiring is Doi shown on the plans and it shall be the responsibility of the fire alarm system supplier to design conduit routing and wiring and to show the same on the shop drawings. Circuits shall be Class B. .5 Shop Drawings: Prepare floor plan backgrounds and show conduit routing, device locations, end of line resistors, and wire count between devices. Show fire alarm zones. Updated drawings of the original fire alarm shop drawings are acceptable. Submit drawings and obtain approval of the "Authority Having Jurisdiction" (AHJ). . 6 Approved Manufacturers: Match existing equipment (Pyrotonics equipment shown for reference only). .7 Components: Shall be manufacturers standard. Manual Stations: Break glass, non -coded, semi -flush mounted with fire red enamel finish. Pyrotronics MSI-10B.
