<br />City of Tukwila <br />Allan Ekberg, Mayor <br />INFORMATIONAL MEMORANDUM <br /> <br /> <br />TO: Community Service & SafetyCommittee <br />FROM:Eric Drever, Chief of Police <br />BY:Rebecca Ellison, Senior Manager, Support Operations Division <br />CC:Mayor McLeod <br />DATE:April 14, 2025 <br />SUBJECT:NCHIP Grant for 2024-2026 <br />ISSUE <br />The Tukwila Police Department(PD)has been awarded the National Criminal History <br />Improvement Program (NCHIP) Granttotaling $248,805.00.The Federal portionis100 percent <br />foratwo-year temporary Disposition Research Specialist positionfrom January 1, 2025- <br />December 31, 2026. <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Tukwila PDtakes over 9,000 police reports annually. Over the years, corrections, additions, <br />or dispositionsneed to be made to these casesand the associated criminal histories.Orders to <br />vacate, seal, destroy and delete records must also be completed. In addition, as part of Tukwila <br />Tukwila booking files need to be reviewedto ensure all content <br />has been included inWashington State Patrol records. <br />To continue the current level of service to the community and other agenciesand make the <br />needed changes, the Tukwila PD Records Unit needs to add one temporary FTE to complete <br />thedisposition-relatedtasks.This no-match grant will provide funding for the one temporary, <br />contracted, FTE. <br />Tukwila PD has received this grant for several years.At the end of 2024, the department was 89 <br />percent compliant with the disposition standard. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT <br />There is no local share for this grant. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Approval is needed from the Council to enter into the grant agreement. <br />ATTACHMENTS <br />Attachment 1:NCHIP Grant Application <br />19 <br /> <br />
