City of Tukwila <br />Parks & Recreation Department - Pete Mayer, Director <br />MINUTES: April 16, 2025 <br />Thomas McLeod, Mayor <br />ARTS COMMISSION: Pat Bako (Chair/Position 1), Sheila Coppola (Vice Chair/Position 2), Pinky Estell (Position 3), Verna <br />Seal (Position 4), Cynthia Chesak (Position 5), Kamla Kakaria (Position 6), Shawn Belyea (Position 7), Angeline Peralta <br />(Student Representative) <br />AGENDA: <br />Call to Order/LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: The City of Tukwila is located on the ancestral lands of the Coast Salish <br />people. We acknowledge their continuing connections to land, waters, and culture. We pay our respect to their elders <br />past, present and emerging. <br />• Roll Call <br />• Approval of Agenda <br />• Approval of Minutes <br />Visitor Introduction: <br />• Karine Roettgers, Partnership Development Manager, Seattle Southside <br />o Barbara McMichael, Community Liaison for Seattle Southside, also attended. <br />• Barbara informed the commission that SoCoCulture will be revived. Their next meeting will be in <br />May. Information will be sent to the commission. <br />• SCC is currently mapping public art in southside cities, including Tukwila. SCC will share its <br />current inventory with the commission for any input and/or additions. <br />• SCC may also be commissioning public art in the future and will seek the commissions input. <br />Commissioner Reports: <br />• Ongoing Business <br />o Festival Update <br />• Pinky Estell reported on a meeting held with Tukwila Parks & Recreation regarding resources the <br />department can extend to the festival. <br />• Next steps will be to create an event layout/map with necessary resources noted. <br />• The commission also agreed that the World Cup activities in Seattle will likely not negatively <br />impact a festival held in 2026. <br />o Portrait Project Update <br />• Verna Seal reported that an approved photo of Jan Bolerjack has been acquired. <br />• Michael May has begun the contract with project artist Gloria Alberto. <br />o Council Presentation <br />• Cynthia Chesak reported out.
