HomeMy WebLinkAboutArts 2025-11-19 MinutesCity of Tukwila Parks & Recreation Department - Pete Mayer, Director November 19, 2025: MINUTES FOR APPROVAL Thomas McLeod, Mayor NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the City's Arts Commission will meet on November 19, 2025, at 6 p.m. This meeting will be held in person and on Teams in the Executive Conference Room at the Tukwila Community Center, 12424 42nd Avenue South. ARTS COMMISSION: Pat Bako (Chair/Position 1), Sheila Coppola (Vice Chair/Position 2), Pinky Estell (Position 3), Cynthia Chcsak (Position 5), Kamla Kakaria (Position 6), Shawn Bclyca (Position 7), Angeline Peralta (Student Representative) AGENDA: Call to Order/LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: The City of Tukwila is located on the ancestral lands of the Coast Salish people. We acknowledge their continuing connections to land, waters, and culture. We pay our respect to their elders past, present and emerging. • Roll Call • Approval of Agenda • Approval of Minutes Commissioner Reports: • Reports o State of the City Update (Mayor McLeod request) • Sheila Coppola met with the Mayor. • The event date will be April 29 • No designer will be involved. • Sheila will work up some designs to share with the Mayor/Commission after the holidays in January • Initial concept is to have 5 people holding hands (representing Tukwila's diversity). Surrounded by the natural environment present in our City. • Design should be wrapped up sometime in February/March. • Sheila suggested "payment" could come in the form of an artist grant funded by the City. The mayor suggested two $2500 grants. • Mayor brought up inter -generational center at the future HealthPoint site. Sheila suggested that the Tukwila Teen Art Collective be included in that. • Sheila Coppola mentioned that she had a conversation with the Tukwila Historical Society about the use of the old Fire Station 52 at Hazelnut Park. • Pinky Estell mentioned that some work has been done privately on what it would cost to renovate the space. Michael May will explore whether the funding has been approved. • New Business o Pinky Estell: • Otter & Penguin Makerspaces did a fundraising activity at Sheila Coppola's studio. • OPM has also toured a shop space in Pioneer Square. • Pinky will bring a draft resolution/letter from the Commission to be sent to the City Council in the new year. It will be presented at the Commission meeting in January. o End of Year Gathering: • December 17: All Commission Gathering • Commission voted to gather instead of having a meeting • Start time will be 6 p.m. • Michael will reserve a space. Social Hall is the preferred location.
