RESOLUTION NO. 798
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON
SUPPORTING METRO'S PROPOSED DIVERSION OF TREATED
WASTEWATER FROM THE DUWAMISH RIVER INTO A TUNNEL
REACHING PUGET SOUND.
WHEREAS, the discharge of treated wastewater from the Renton
Sewage Treatment Plant violates water quality standards in the Duwamish
River at critical times of the year; and
WHEREAS, the discharge of treated wastewater causes possible
losses to the valuable salmon fishery in the Green /Duwamish system; and
WHEREAS, the discharge of treated wastewater directly into
the Puget Sound waters provides improved dispersion of diluted effluent
with little or no adverse water quality or fishery problems.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA,
WASHINGTON, DO RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
A. The City of Tukwila hereby expresses its support
for the proposed plan of the Municipality of Metro-
politan Seattle to divert wastewater treated at
its Renton Sewage Treatment Plant from the Duwamish
River to Puget Sound via a tunnel and outfall.
B. Further, the City of Tukwila supports alternative
Puget Sound discharge locations which offer greater
long -term protection against possible adverse cumu-
lative impacts to fishery resourses and water quality
than discharge into the Duwamish River.
PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON,
