(UBC 1013.3) 5. Exits shall be illuminated any time the building is occupied with light having an intensity of not less than 1 foot candle at floor level. Fixtures required for exit illumination shall be supplied from separate sources of power for Group I, Divisions 1.1 and 1.2 occupancies and for all other occupancies where the exiting system serves an occupant load of 100 or more. (UBC 1012.1, 1012.2) The power supply for the exit pathway illumination shall normally be provided by the premise's wiring system. In the event of its failure, illumination shall be automatically provided from an emergency system.
