ARTS COMMISSION <br />-i������ <br />MINUTES <br />V I� a < . � u�,L�.w,���� <br />�i <br />March 3, 2015 5:00 p.m. Tukwila Community Center <br />Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Commission Chair, Steve Mullet at 5:05 pm <br />Attendance: Commissioners — Cynthia Chesak, Steve Mullet, Trisha Gilmore, Adrienne Banks <br />Student Representative — <br />Staff — Stephanie Gardner - Brown, Parks and Recreation <br />Guests: Shawn Roberts, STG Theatre Group: 2016 Ailey Camp, Daniel Humke (potential <br />new student representative in 2016) <br />Presentation: Shawn Roberts from STG Theatre Group attended the meeting to share information <br />about the 2016 Alvin Ailey Camp that will be coming to the Seattle area. She described the mission of <br />the camp is to work with 60 underserved youth ages 11 — 14 to expose them to dance, personal <br />development, and other lifelong skills. She explained that the program is fully funded through fundraising <br />efforts led by STG. Currently, STG is searching for a site to host the camp, the Community Center may <br />be a potential site. The Commission appreciated the information and presentation and offered <br />encouraging words for the program. <br />Approval of Minutes: Minutes from the January 6, 2015 meeting were unanimously approved. <br />Citizen Comment: There were no Citizen Comments <br />Business Items: <br />Other: <br />a. Municipal Arts Fund: Stephanie Gardner -Brown provided a brief status update regarding <br />the development of guidelines and procedures for the 1 % of Capital Project Funding for <br />Public Art. She explained City staff have met to discuss a first draft and will be meeting <br />again in the near future. More information will be provided at the April meeting for <br />discussion and Arts Commissioner input. <br />b. <br />c. Duwamish Hill Preserve Phase II Update and Art incorporation: Stephanie Gardner -Brown <br />informed the Commission that Phase II for Duwamish Hill Preserve is underway, 50% <br />drawings were reviewed by staff and the Hill management team in February. As part of <br />Phase II, an Outdoor Classroom will be developed with unique art components. The "floor" <br />of the classroom will be constructed of sandblasted granite and granite inlay, a unique <br />concept has been developed by Mette Hansen (who created the bench backs). The <br />classroom depicts a journey through the seasonal rounds of the Puget Sound Salish. Each <br />month is depicted and demonstrates seasonal information pertinent to a time when the Hill <br />was utilized for gathering, harvesting, and living. The arts commission reviewed the <br />drawings and offered positive feedback. <br />a. Cynthia Chesak informed the Commission that there will be no CASTT production this <br />summer, after 34 years of working for Tukwila School District she will be retiring and will <br />not have access to the facilities. <br />
