ARTS COMMISSION <br />iW� a <.S & u�, E C, A LXiH O N <br />MINUTES <br />May 5, 2015 5:00 p.m. Tukwila Community Center <br />Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Commission Chair, Steve Mullet at 5:05 pm <br />Attendance: Commissioners — Cynthia Chesak, Steve Mullet, Brian Kennedy Trisha Gilmore <br />Student Representative — Nandina Cengic, potential future representative Daniel Humke <br />Staff — Stephanie Gardner - Brown, Parks and Recreation <br />Guests: Tay & Val of #Dreams Unlimited <br />Approval of Minutes: Minutes from the March 3, 2015 meeting were unanimously approved. <br />Citizen Comment: There were no Citizen Comments <br />Business Items: <br />Other <br />a. #Dreams Unlimited: Nate Robinson, Teen Program Specialist, introduced Tay & Val from <br />#Dreams Unlimited. Tay and Val are award - winning filmmakers and inspirational storytellers <br />from Singapore, they are dreamers who have cycled and traveled across the globe by <br />implementing their project "I Believe That Dreams Can Come True." Tay and Val proposed <br />bringing their program, #Dreams Unlimited to Tukwila. The program is a 90 minute interactive <br />multimedia presentation that would be created with select Foster High School Students. <br />Together they will share inspiration, hopes and dreams — via media films, photos, live- music, <br />spoken word performances and traditional oral story- telling. The culmination of the student's <br />work with Tay and Val will result in a free presentation at the Foster Performing Arts Center on <br />June 17th. A similar program has been held through and within other cities in King County. Nate <br />Robinson formerly requested $4,000 to support the program. Brian Kennedy motioned that that <br />he Arts Commission support the DreamsUnlimited program in the amount of $4,000 utilizing <br />Sustained Support funding the City receives from 4Culture. Cynthia Chesak seconded the <br />motion, all were in favor and the motion carried. <br />b. 19th Annual Tukwila Fine Arts Show: Stephanie Gardner reminded the Commission <br />that the art show reception would be held on Friday, May 8th and the art Show would be <br />held on Saturday May 9th. Commissioners provided times they could help with show and <br />reception set up. <br />c. Art Display Panels: Stephanie reported the new art display panels had arrived and she <br />believes the panel will positively contribute to the show. Discussion regarding the former panels <br />was discussed, including that the panels were donated to the Arts Commission about four years <br />ago. Cynthia Chesak made a motion to offer the former panels to the Tukwila Historical Society <br />to utilize as they wish or find another organization to donate to. Trisha Gilmore seconded the <br />motion, all were in favor and the motion carried. <br />a. Cynthia Chesak provided information about the final shows being performed this school year. <br />The shows will be on May 201h and May 21St <br />Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 6:00 pm. <br />
