<br /> <br />ARTS COMMISSION <br />MINUTES <br />November 16, 2016 5:00 p.m. Tukwila Community Center <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />1.Call to Order: Chairperson Brian Kennedy called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. <br /> <br /> <br />2.Attendance: Commissioners - Brian Kennedy, Sheila Coppola, Steve Mullet, Cynthia Chesak, Trish <br /> <br /> Gilmore, Helen Enguerra, Daniel Humkey <br /> Staff - Dave Johnson <br /> Guests – Rose Warren, Olena Perry <br /> <br />3.Approval of Agenda: Steve Mullet moved to approve an amended agenda to include staff Introduction and <br /> <br />presentation on Transportation Grant/Incorporating Art. Cynthia Chesak seconded the motion. Motion <br />passed unanimously. <br /> <br />4.Introduction: New Recreation Specialist Olena Perry introduced himself to the Commission and fielded <br /> <br />questions from the Commissioners. She is anxious to be a resource and support art in Tukwila. <br /> <br />5.Presentation: Rose Warren presented information to the Commission on a Transportation grant <br /> <br />opportunity that integrates art. Project could include bake racks, pedestrian safety, signage and the like. <br />Rose fielded questions from the Commission and encouraged them to offer input on areas to focus on. <br /> <br />6.Approval of Minutes: Steve Mullet moved to approve the minutes of October 19,2016 meeting. Trisha <br /> <br />Gilmore seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously. <br /> <br />7.Unfinished Business: <br /> <br />a.Arts Display Wall – Staff shared that the wall panels have arrived and are scheduled for installation <br /> <br />next week. Staff indicated that they would be preparing some information to promote the display <br />and how to apply/accept art. Trisha Gilmore volunteered to be the Commission lead for this. <br />b.Arts Plan – Staff shared that they just received the draft scope of work from 4Culture and will need <br /> <br />to review it and work to fine tune it. Staff asked for 2-3 Commissioners to serve on the review <br />panel. Commissioners Mullet, Kennedy, and Coppola volunteered. <br /> <br />8.New Business <br /> <br />a.New Commissioner Appointment – Staff provided information on an applicant to fill a vacancy on <br /> <br />the Commission. Commissioners reviewed the material. Trisha Gilmore moved to recommend <br />Alex Villella for appointment to the Commission. Helen Enguerra seconded the motion. Motion <br />passed unanimously. <br /> <br />9.Committee Reports <br /> <br />A.Rainier Symphony – The Committee met with the Symphony Director who is trying to meet with the <br /> <br />High School music teacher. They are interested in ways to connect the Symphony with the culture of <br />Tukwila. <br />B.Backyard Wildlife Art Show – The Committee is looking forward to meeting early in 2017. <br /> <br />C.Arts Promotion in Community – no report <br /> <br />D.Commissioner Reports – Commissioners discussed assisting Foster High School with the purchase of <br /> <br />Choir Robes. If possible, the Commission would like to contribute towards the cost of this. The <br /> <br /> <br />
