<br /> <br />ARTS COMMISSION <br />MINUTES <br />July 12, 2016 3:00 p.m. Tukwila Community Center <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Call to Order: Chairperson Brian Kennedy called the meeting to order at 3:04 p.m. <br /> <br />Attendance: Commissioners - Brian Kennedy, Sheila Coppola, Steve Mullet, Cynthia Chesak, Trish Gilmore, <br />Daniel Humkey <br /> Staff - Dave Johnson, Trish Kinlow <br /> <br />Presentation: Trish Kinlow gave a presentation on the Public Safety Plan to the commission and answered <br />questions. <br /> <br />Approval of Minutes: Cynthia Chesak moved to approve the minutes of May 13, 2016 meeting. Trish Gilmore <br />seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously. <br /> <br />Business Items <br />A.Rainier Symphony Report – Commission reviewed the report from Rainier Symphony that was in the <br /> <br />packet. The commission would like to continue to support the Rainier Symphony and offered suggestions <br />such as recruiting Tukwila residents to participate in the symphony, help distribute tickets to the schools, <br />assist with promotion, and figure out how to work better with them and connect with different cultures. <br />The Commission desires to form a sub-committee to work on this, and Steve Mullet and Cynthia Chesak <br />volunteered for it. This will be a standing agenda item with committee report outs. <br />B.Backyard Wildlife Art Show – Staff and Commissioners discussed the show and formed a sub-committee to <br /> <br />begin exploring a rules and guidelines for future shows. Brian Kennedy, Sheila Coppola, and Trish Gilmore <br />volunteered to serve on this committee. This will be a standing agenda item with committee report outs. <br />C.Budget Discussion – Staff shared with the budget status with the commission. <br /> <br />D.Municipal Arts Fund - Staff reviewed the draft policy with commission, and there were no further changes <br /> <br />or additions. <br /> <br />Other <br />A.Sheila Coppola shared information with the Commission about 2 upcoming events: <br /> <br />th <br />a.“Come Sit at our Table” community potluck on August 13 <br /> <br />b.Youth/Teen workshop – Art Project Identity at Highline CC <br /> <br />B.The Commission also expressed a desire for further promotion of the Arts in the community, and formed a <br /> <br />committee that includes Daniel Humkey, Sheila Coppola, and Trish Gilmore. This will be a standing agenda <br />item with committee report outs. <br /> <br />Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 4:40pm <br /> <br /> <br />Next Meeting: August 9, 2016 @ 3:00pm <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
