Ci <br />of Tukwila <br />Washington <br />Resolution No. Z� 5 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, HONORING <br />THE LEGACY OF JIM HAGGERTON AND HIS <br />CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE CITY OF TUKWILA. <br />WHEREAS, with the passing of Jim Haggerton the City of Tukwila has lost a <br />dedicated public servant of over 30 years and a vision ary leader who played a critical role <br />in shaping the Tukwila we know today and laying the groundwork for its bright future; and <br />WHEREAS, Jim and Carol Haggerton moved to the McMicken Heights neighborhood <br />in Tukwila in 1972, where they raised two children, Terri and Carey; and <br />WHEREAS, after many years of volunteer community service and youth mentorship, <br />Jim became involved in government, serving nine years on the Planning Commission, 13 <br />years on the City Council, and eight years as Mayor; and <br />WHEREAS, Jim's contributions to Tukwila are countless and encompass a broad <br />range of areas including transit expansion and access, commercial development, public <br />infrastructure, strategic and fiscal planning, and regional collaboration; and <br />WHEREAS, many major development and public projects in the City are directly <br />related to Jim's leadership including the Klickitat interchange, Tukwila South <br />Development Agreement, Link Light Rail Station, South Park Bridge, Tukwila Commuter <br />Rail and Amtrak Station, Southcenter Parkway, Interurban Avenue, and Tukwila Village; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, Jim valued the importance of regional collaboration and served in a <br />variety of roles for the Association of Washington Cities, Sound Cities Association, <br />Cascade Water Alliance, Southcenter Rotary Club, King County Aerospace Alliance, <br />Airport Communities Coalition, SCORE, and National League of Cities; and <br />WHEREAS, Jim worked tirelessly on behalf of Tukwila to represent and effectively <br />advocate for its interests at the county, state and federal level; and <br />WHEREAS, Jim was an effective collaborator and had the ability to get things done <br />for the good of the entire community; and <br />CC:legislative Development\ Honoring J i m Hag gerton 11-29-21 <br />LH:bjs Review and anaysis by Barbara Saxton Page 1 of 2 <br />
