Office <br />j� Tukwil Was <br />a <br />1908 <br />PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, in 1982 J. Sterling Morton proposed to the Nebraska Board of <br />Agriculture that a special day be set aside for the planting of trees; and <br />WHEREAS, this holiday, called Arbor Day, was first observed with the <br />planting of more than a million trees in Nebraska; and <br />WHEREAS, Arbor Day is now observed throughout the world; and <br />WHEREAS, trees can reduce the erosion of our precious topsoil by wind and <br />water, cut heating and cooling costs, moderate the temperature, clean the air, <br />produce life giving oxygen, and provide habitat for wildlife; and <br />WHEREAS, trees in our City also increase property values and enhance the <br />economic vitality of business areas; and <br />WHEREAS, all members of the Tukwila community are urged to celebrate <br />Arbor Day and to support efforts to protect trees and woodlands; and <br />WHEREAS, all members of the Tukwila community are also encouraged to <br />plant trees to gladden the heart and promote the well -being of this and future <br />generations. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, I, Jim Haggerton, Mayor of the City of Tukwila, do <br />hereby proclaim Wednesday, April 11, 2012: <br />Arbor Day <br />in the City of Tukwila, and encourage all citizens to join me in recognizing this <br />special observance. <br />Presented at the City Council meeting this 9th day of April, 2012. <br />Jim aV rton, Mayor <br />
