Mr. Wells B. McCurdy made two requests relating to work being
done in the slide area of the development. Ile asked that Puget
Western be allowed to excavate a portion of the slide area near 57th
Avenue South to drain water which he claimed was causing the entire slide.
This slide has caused considerable damage in the area of 53rd Avenue South
and South 162nd Street. He stated that the three private property owners
involved had been or were being bought out. This would make Puget
Western the sole owners of the property in question.
A representative of Dames Moore, soils analyst Engineers,
have been retained by Puget Western to study the area, claimed that
this work, if allowed, would probably stabilize the slide area.
Mr. Doyle moved the Council grant this request provided Puget Western
would furnish proof of insurance for liability in case further damage
should result to either private or town property, because this work,
seconded by Mr. Ives and carried. All representatives of Puget Western
who were present gave assurance that these documents would be given Sao
the town attorney before work commenced.
llr. McCurdy, Vice President of Puget Western, also requested that
the Stop Work order, placed on the slide area in August, 1960, be lifted,,
specifically to allow Puget Western to close and lower to grade 57th
Avenue South. They would remove the earth to a grade agreeable to the State'
Highway Department and replace said road as previously agreed upon with
the town. In return they would purchase property and build a new road
around the slide area to give access to 54th Avenue South iviaps were presented
showing proposed routes of new road which would be completed, including
black -top surfacing and open for traffic by Augustl, 1961.
Mr. Minkler moved this request be granted, provided all committments
made by Puget Western were carried out as scheduled, seconded by Mr,
Doyle and carried.
