A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, EXPRESSING ITS COLLECTIVE
POSITION OF SUPPORT FOR THE COUNTYWIDE 2014 -2019
MEDIC ONE /EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES (EMS) LEVY.
WHEREAS, the delivery of emergency medical services is an essential function of
the fire and life safety responsibility of local and regional government; and
WHEREAS, the tiered Medic One /EMS system in King County provides essential
life- saving services throughout the region regardless of location, incident circumstances,
day of the week, or time of day; and
WHEREAS, the King County Medic One /EMS system is internationally recognized
for its successful medical results, including a 52% cardiac arrest survival rate, the
highest anywhere to date; and
WHEREAS, it has been to the benefit of the residents of the City of Tukwila to
support and participate in the countywide cooperative of delivering Advanced Life
Support Services and Basic Life Support Services; and
WHEREAS, RCW 84.52.069 provides for countywide emergency medical care and
service levies; and
WHEREAS, the patient and program services of the King County Medic One /EMS
system are funded by a countywide Medic One /EMS levy that expires December 31,
2013; and
WHEREAS, the EMS Advisory Task Force, created via King County Ordinance
15862, worked collaboratively with EMS stakeholders to develop the Medic One /EMS
2014 -2019 Strategic Plan to continue providing this countywide service and has
recommended an initial levy rate of 33.5 cents per $1,000 assessed value to fund EMS
service throughout King County; and
WHEREAS, the City of Tukwila significantly participated in these discussions
throughout the process and was represented on the Task Force;

NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA,
WASHINGTON, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
The Tukwila City Council, by majority vote, hereby expresses support for the
proposed six -year $.335 per thousand dollars of assessed value countywide Medic
One /EMS levy set for the November 5, 2013 General Election, and urges all eligible
Tukwila voters to support the levy.
