PROCLAMATI0N
WHEREAS, the month of May has been recognized as Arts Education Month
by many communities and school districts across the State of Washington; and
WHEREAS, the arts embody much of the accumulated wisdom, intellect,
and imagination of humankind; and
WHEREAS, learning in the arts enhances and enriches the lives
students; and
WHEREAS, the arts play a unique role in the lives of our families, and our
communities; and
WHEREAS, all children deserve a quality arts education; and
WHEREAS, arts education teaches creative problem- solving, provides
cultural knowledge and offers multiple pathways to understanding for different
types of learners; and
WHEREAS, arts education increases connections and engagement between
teachers, students, and the community that surrounds them; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Jim Haggerton, Mayor of the City of Tukwila, do
hereby proclaim May 2009:
in the City of Tukwila, and call upon our community to celebrate and promote
the arts in our schools and to take action to provide equitable access to arts
learning for all students.
