APPLICANT BY freestanding circulating fireplace installation legal description . FREE STANDING FORCED AIR CIRCULATING FIREPLACE Sears, Roebuck and Co., Chicago, Ill. 60684 U.S.A. ' Prinled Ip U.S.A. rules for safe installation 1. Read the Owner's Manual and the Rules for Safe Operation carefully. Failure to follow these rules and the instructions could cause a malfunction of }; 9. The metal components of the fireplace and chimney may have sharp edges or protrusions which can cut easily. Be extremely careful to avoid personal injury. 10. Check for wires above house and near chimney area. Allow plenty of clearance. Do not touch any wires. Fatal electric shock could result. 11. The fireplace must be connected to a 120 V AC Electrical Circuit to operate properly. The unit must be electrically grounded in accordance with the National Electrical Code, ANSI C1.1975 when Installed. 12. For your safety and protection, chimney should'be grounded through fireplace. If they are not, use a ground rod, clomp and wire, to ground chimney and unit. 13. Provide air for combustion from the outside into the room where the fireplace is located. If the intake is not in the some room, the air must have free access to the room, or install the Outside Air Kit 42.8475. 14, Before servicing, allow fireplace to cool. Always shut off any electricity and gas (if gas is used) to fireplace when working on it. This will prevent any electrical shocks or burns. 15. Keep glass doors and fire screen closed at all times except when adding fuel. 16. Keep outlet flue damper fully open at all times while heat is present in fireplace. assembling and locating your fireplace Remove all parts and check against list below: 1 Fireplace (assembled) 1 Upper Chimney Connector 1 Lower Chimney Connector 1 Collar Plus any other optional equipment you have or- dered. Report to Sears if any parts are missing or damaged. Your fireplace is shipped completely assembled with two sections of porcelainized flue shields and two lengths of stainless steel flue pipe. It may be installed in any room with ceiling height up to 9 feet. For installation in rooms with higher than 9 foot ceilings, additional lengths of shield and pipe may be used. See Page 14. If it is to be installed in a Mobile or Modular Home, prefabricated chimney must ter- minate with Mobile Home Round Top. See Page 8 for installation instructions. Locating Your Fireplace Refer to Figs. 1, 2, and 3 for clearances which must be observed for safe operation of the fireplace. If floor is combustible, a non-combustible base (2" patio masonry block is recommended) must be used. Set non-combustible base so it completely covers the area under the fireplace and extends a minimum of 16" in front of fireplace and 8" from each side of the opening. Fireplace must be at least 7" from com- bustible wall at sides on wall installation, If installed in corner, 3" clearance from sides to combustible material. If qn Outside Air Kit 42 -8475 is to be installed, arrangements for a 61/4" round hole must be made thru the non - combustible base. This opening is directly in line with the fireplace flue center line. IMPORTANT: For your safety and protection, the fireplace and chimney should be grounded. Use a ground rod, clamp and wire to ground fireplace and chimney. The chimney may go through an upstairs room in a corner or along a wall. It should be covered with a partition. This will help avoid personal injury. It will also protect the chimney. Be sure to keep at least 1" space between the chimney and the partition. Starting Pipe Sections 1. Place section of Triple Wall Pipe in Support Box with inner pipe through center hole. 2. Add Triple Wall Pipe to the one installed. Rotate each section until seams are aligned. 3. Fasten each section with 3 screws provided. 7 If Chimney Passes Through Floor or Ceiling If the chimney passes through a floor or ceiling above the Support Box, a Fire Stop Spacer MUST be used. Mount the Spacer at the bottom of each framed opening in any floor or ceiling that the Triple Wall Pipe passes through. (Fig. 15.) installing pipe and elbows Cutting Hole in Roof 1. Find the size hole to cut into roof. Use a string and plumb bob. Mark four sides of the Triple Wall Pipe on the inside of the roof. (Fig. 16.) 2. Lay out roof opening at least 1" larger. Keep 1" minimum clearance from Triple Wall Pipe to combustibles. 3. Cut out opening. Save shingles for covering flashing. A rafter may be cut to make opening, or elbow kit may be used. Place headers between remaining rafters and nail in place. Place ad- ditional rafter section to maintain 1" clearance (Fig. 16.) Add Triple Wall Pipe as previously described until it is 8" to 16" min. above roof. (Fig. 18.) 4. If an offset is needed to miss a joist or rafter, use a 15° or 30° Elbow Kit. C installation instructions Model 155.847400 Fireplace with 42-8475 Combustion Air Kit To install 42 -8475 Combustion Air Kit on fireplace, follow the instructions contained with kit. Combustion Air Inlet There is a 6" round combustion air inlet on the bottom of the 42 -8475 Outside Air Kit, (Air Intake Base Shield). When installed on the 155.847400 Fireplace, this inlet is exactly in line with the top flue outlet. Ref or. to Page 4 for dimensions of outlet. A damper is installed in this inlet, It is controlled by a knob on the front of the base. A 6" dia. telescoping inlet pipe is supplied to duct outside air to the fireplace. The opening for this pipe can be downward under the fireplace (Fig. 22) if the air is to be taken from under the floor. If the opening to the outside is at the rear wall, the pipe can be elbowed, (Fig. 23). DO NOT TAKE COMBUSTION AIR FROM ATTIC SPACE OR ANY OTHER ROOM. If using the pipe directly on the fireplace, place the cutout over an obstruction, such as duct, joist, frame etc., the combustion air may be token from outside by using a 10" x 3 -1/2" flat duct from below the fireplace and above the floor thru the outside wall. (Fig. 24.) If the telescoping pipe is not long enough to extend to the outside, (it expands from 15" to 34 ") it can be extended with any 6" dia. galvanized pipe. To install: 1. Locate the outlet and cut a 6-1/4" dia. hole for the combustion air duct. Be sure to extend the 6 -1/4" openings all the way through to the outside air source. They must be thru any insulation vapor barrier or sheet metal to the under side of home (or outside if horizontal). 2. If Mobile Home: Position support box in ceiling cutout and fasten securely to ceiling. On a flat roof, it may extend above roof. If so, trim support box above the roof as required to allow flashing to fit flush on the roof. 1 inch clearance to Triple Wall Pipe is required in attic (or other) space above. Follow installation instructions on in- stalling Sears Chimney. If Residential: Follow installation instructions included with Sears Residential Chimney. 3. Secure fireplace to non - combustible base with screws provided thru holes on the inside edge of the base. IMPORTANT: For your safety and protection, the fireplace and chimney should be grounded. Use a ground rod, clamp and wire to ground fireplace and chimney. 4. Secure combustion air pipe to fireplace. Push pipe (with screen grill) through wall or floor from the outside and secure to other pipe. Attach intake grill to floor or wall with screws. If installed through the wall, a decorative louver may be mounted over the inlet to improve the ap- pearance. 10 NORMAL INSTALLATION DOWN THRU FLOOR TO CRAWL SPACE ELBOW INSTALLATION TO REACH OUTSIDE FOR COMBUSTION AIR.
