SUBJECT: Draft Resolution Relating to Apprenticeship Program
ISSUE
As part of the 2013 Transportation Committee goals, committee members have been
exploring the implementation of an Apprenticeship Utilization Program for Public Works
construction contracts.
BACKGROUND
Committee members have previously expressed an interest in implementing
apprenticeship utilization goals as a way to help ensure a viable workforce in the future.
Previous committee discussions have focused on similar programs in the region, and a
preliminary draft was reviewed at the August 27th Transportation Committee meeting.
DISCUSSION
A revised draft resolution establishing levels of apprenticeship utilization and direct City
Administration to develop guidelines for such a program will be distributed and
discussed at the Committee meeting.
RECOMMENDATION
Discussion only.
