Sterling Morton proposed to the Nebraska Board of v Agriculture that a special day be set aside for the planting of trees; and WHEREAS, this holiday, called Arbor Day, was first observed with the ��s Y Y planting of more than a million trees in Nebraska; and fi r' -f '`w Yom? Y r ry n r W HER EAS, Arbo Day is now observed throughout the nation and world; ter_ and v_ .0,, WHEREAS, trees can reduce the erosion of our precious topsoil by wind and water, cut heating and cooling costs, mo the temperature, clean the air, produce life- giving oxygen, and provide habitat for wildlife; and WHEREAS, trees are a renewable resource giving us paper, wood for our homes, fuel for our fires, and beauty in our community; and s WHEREAS, trees in our City also increase property values, and enhance the economic vitality of business areas; and a a =ter 0 A WHEREAS, all members of the Tukwila community are urged to celebrate Arbor Day and to support efforts to protect trees and woodlands; and J o---- W HEREAS, a ll members of the Tukwila community are also encouraged to a pl ant trees to gladden the heart and promote the well -being of this and future generations. kir NOW, THEREFORE, I, Steven M.
