HomeMy WebLinkAbout1921-04-14 Regular Minutestie Tukwila, Washington. April 14th, 1921. The regular monthly meeting of the Coancii of the Town of Tukwila was called to order by the Mayor at 8:20 P. M. There were present, Councilmen, F. J. Klein, W. F. Engel, H. E. Ives, and C. Sanders; Councilman M. V. Lemon being absent. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. REPORTS OF OUNU TTEES: Street_ Committee. Councilman Engel. f'he streets on the hill have been dragged during the past month, but no additional work has been done on Main Street or Tukwila Avenue on account of the rainy weather. The grading for the sidewalk on the Pacific Highway is completed ready to lay the concrete. BILLS: The following bills were ready by the Clerk, and after being oked by the Finance Committee it was moved, seconded, and carried that they be paid and warrants drawn for th a r respective amounts, Chas. A protest from R. L. Ward, J. A. Duff, J. A. Hozack, and firs. K. Shephard regarding the sidewalks as provided for in Resolution No. 19 were read by the Clerk. After a general discussion it was moved and seconded that the protests regarding the walk on Tukwila Avenue be disregarded. Motion carried. It was moved and seconded that the Street Superintendent be instructed to fix the official grade for Mr. S. H. Stevens in order that he may build a fence and sidewalk in front of his property. Lotion carried. It was moved and seconded that the protest of Messrs. Ward and Duff be accepted, and that the contemplated walk on Kenney Boulevard be -abandoned at the present time. Motion carried. Councilman Klein reported-that no action had been taken on -the. walk at-- Black Fiver Station, and asked for further time. Request granted. Moved and seconded that Councilman Engel be instructed to order the lumber for sidewalks provided for in Resolution No. 19 with the exception of the walks on Kenney Boulevard, together with sufficient lumber for walks in front of Messrs. Cutting's and Fletcher's property on Main Street, as well as sufficient lumber for the walk at Black River. This lumber to be ordered from the U. K. Swift Lumber Co. at a price of $22.00 per X for 4x4, and $12.50 per M for 2x8w6. Motion carried. The bid of William Meade for the construction of sidewalks was read by- the Clerk. Moved and seconded that the bid be rejected and the Sidewalk Committee arrange for the construction of sidewalks by day labor. Motion carried. The bid for the grading on the Flat by J. T. Meade was read by the Clerk. Moved and seconded that the bid be rejected and that the town proceed with the work by day labor. Motion carria:i. Councilman Sanders reported on the proposition of constructing a hall.. that the matter was under way, butthat as yet the lot had not been selected and plans for financing the project were not completed, and requested -more time. Re granted. P 3e3 NEW BUSINESS: The question of providing a. pound master for the town was brought up and discussed at length. No action was taken, however. The question of trying to procure some sort of fire apparatus for the town was brought up, and the matter was referred to the Clerk to report at the next meeting. Councilman Klein brought up the question of installing a concrete walk adjoining the Pacific Highway, and after some discussion it was decided to allow the' grade to stand for some time in order that it would properly settle before the concrete was put on.
