AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON,
AMENDING SECTION 9.16.020(C) OF THE TUKWILA MUNICIPAL
CODE TO REVISE THE SPEED LIMIT ON SECONDARY STATE
HIGHWAY NO. 181 AND ADDING A NEW SECTION 9.16.050
ESTABLISHING A SPEED LIMIT OF 35 MPH ON INTERURBAN
AVENUE.
WHEREAS, Section 9.16.020(C) of the Tukwila Municipal Code
establishes a speed limit of 40 mph on Secondary State Highway No.
181 from Milepost 10.68 north to the City limits, and
WHEREAS, that portion of roadway extending from Milepost
11.45 to the City limits on what was formerly Secondary State
Highway No. 181 is now Interurban Avenue, and
WHEREAS, the City Council, upon the recommendation of the
City's Traffic Engineer and based upon the Traffic Engineer's
study of the speed limits on said roadway, has determined that the
40 mph speed limit should continue to apply to that portion of
roadway which remains Secondary State Highway No. 181 and that a
speed limit of 35 mph should apply to that portion of roadway
which is known as Interurban Avenue, now, therefore,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, DO
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Speed Limit on Secondary State Highway No. 181.
Section 9.16.020(C) of the Tukwila Municipal Code is hereby
amended to read as follows:
C. A 40 mph speed limit is established on Secondary
State Highway No. 181 from State Highway Milepost No.
10.68 to State Highway Milepost No. 11.45.
Section 2. Speed Limit on Interurban Avenue. A new Section
9.16.050 is hereby added to the Tukwila Municipal Code to read as
follows:
9.16.050. Interurban Avenue. A 35 mph speed limit is
established on Interurban Avenue from State Highway
Milepost No. 11.45 to the north City limits.
Section 3. Signs to Be Posted. The Public Works Department
is hereby directed to post appropriate speed limit signs

reflecting the speed limits established in Sections 1 and 2 of
this ordinance.
Section 4. Effective Date. This ordinance shall take effect
and be in full force five (5) days after publication of the
attached summary which is hereby approved, provided, that the
speed limits set forth in Sections 1 and 2 of this ordinance shall
not be effective until appropriate signs are posted.

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON,
AMENDING SECTION 9.16.020(C) OF THE TUKWILA MUNICIPAL
CODE TO REVISE THE SPEED LIMIT ON SECONDARY STATE
HIGHWAY NO. 181 AND ADDING A NEW SECTION 9.16.050
ESTABLISHING A SPEED LIMIT OF 35 MPH ON INTERURBAN
AVENUE.
On
1986, the City Council of the City of
Tukwila passed Ordinance No. /�9 which provides as follows:
Section 1. Amends Section 9.16.020(C) to provide a 40 mph
speed limit on Secondary State Highway No. 181 from Milepost 10.68
to Milepost 11.45.
Section 2. Adds a new Section 9.16.050 to the Tukwila
Municipal Code to establish a speed limit of 35 mph for Interurban
Avenue from Milepost 11.45 to the north City limits.
Section 3. Requires the Public Works Department to post
speed limit signs reflecting the speed limits set by Sections 1
and 2.
Section 4. Establishes an effective date.
The full text of this ordinance will be mailed without charge
to anyone who submits a written request to the City Clerk of the
City of Tukwila for a copy of the text.
