HomeMy WebLinkAbout1918-11-12 Regular MinutesNovember 12, 1918 The 11th Council of the Town of Tukwila met in regular session in the Council Chamber in Lutz Hall, Tuesday evening. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Stevens. Councilmember Erickson Klein and Wallenberg being present at roll call. Minutes of previous meeting were read and approved. Councilmember Hemmick arrived during of the minutes. Street Committee - Superintendent of Streets Klein reported that the sidewalks had been repaired, that the shed for the City tools had been completed, and in his report recommended that a sidewalk be constructed on Kenny Boulevard between Tukwila Avenue and Clarence Avenue, this being a much used thoroughfare, and constantly used by the school children. He reported that he ahd received no bids for graveling on Main Street. Men were willing to work by the day but did not call to make bids. Finance Committee no report Fire and Police Committee no report Law and Ordinance Committee - Councilmember Erickson reported that he had been unable to have the ordinance regarding coasting down sidewalks draw up so Attorney Jones was still in Alaska. Health Committee - Councilmember Wallenberg reported that the Spanish Influenza ban had been lifted. The report of the Town Treasurer was read and ordered placed on file. It was noted still $200.00 due on taxes. The report of the Municipal Magistrate was read and ordered placed on file. Amount of $76.00 had been turned over to the Town Treasurer. The Mayor reported that motorcycle officer G.E. Long had gone to work and could no longer serve as motorcycle officer. The Mayor then proposed the name of L.A. Miner as Officer, and Mr. Miner was duly accepted by the Council as such officer. Police chief no report A communication from A.W. Parsons tendering his resignation as Poundmaster was read by the Clerk. Councilmember Klein seconded by Councilmember Erickson moved that the resignation be not accepted until his successor be appointed. Following bills were read by the Clerk and OK'd by the Finance Committee: Greene and Greene $7.20 J.L. Durbin $12.00 L.A. Miner $14.00 Alicia D. STevens $5.00 S.H. Stevens $3.35 excelsia Motorcycle and Bicycle company $25.16 Total $66.71 councilmember Klein seconded by Councilmember Wallenberg moved that the Clerk be instructed to draw warrants for all bills OK'd by the Finance Committee. Carried. A Communication from H.D. Moore Attorney for petitioner D.K. Welt to vacate certain lots east of the Interurban tracks was read by the Clerk. Councilmember erickson moved seconded by Councilmember Wallenberg that this matter be referred to the Street Committee and be brought before the next regular meeting. councilmember Klein was also instructed to see tax about the fence he had built across Summitt Avenue. Unfinished Business The Mayor reported that he had received a letter from the electric Light company stating that in account of war, they would be unable to furnish the Town with lights. But it was thought that possibly lights could be put in when the wires run along the road. New Business The Mayor reported that a band of boys had done considerable damage on the school grounds torn up sidewalk and pushed an auto down the highway in the night of November 11, 1918. councilmember Klein seconded by councilmember erickson made a motion to post notices of record of $25.00 for information leading to arrest and conviction of parties demolishing property in date of November 11th and that notice be posted in conspicuous places. The Clerk was instructed to prepare proper notices for closing of the Registration Books November 23, 1918 - ten days before the Municipal Election. Also candidates were to be notified to have their names in the hands of the Town Clerk ten days before Election, and the Clerk was instructed to post notices to that effect. Clerk was instructed to have requisite number of ballots printed and to get the necessary election books. The Election Committee was instructed to appoint judge and clerks of election. Councilmember Wallenberg and Erickson were instructed to fix signs on highway which had been torn down. Superintendent of Streets Klein was instructed to order posts and wire for the Steigler fence. Resolution 11 concering the building of a sidewalk in the east side of Kenny Boulevard from Tukwila Avenue to Clarence Avenue was read by the Clerk. councilmember Klein moved seconded by Councilmember Erickson that the resolution be laid on the table to be taken up at the next regular meeting. Ordinance 75 was read by the Clerk. An ordinance approving the assessment roll for the construction of a sidewalk in the south side of Tukwila Avenue from Main Street to Warren Avenue in the Town of Tukwila and declaring the amounts assessed against the several lots in such improvement district lien thereon. Councilmember Erickson seconded by Councilmember Wallenberg moved that Ordinance 75 read by the Clerk be read by title and put to final vote. On roll call: Councilmembers Hemmick yes Erickson yes Klein yes Wallenberg yes Ordinance was declared passed. councilmember Hemmick reported that there was considerable obstruction of brush in path over hill at end of Riverside Avenue giving over to Ton's. Street Committee instructed Councilmember Hemmick to see that obstruction was cleared up. Meeting then adjourned to meet on December 10, 1918. Alicia D. Stevens Deputy Clerk
