HomeMy WebLinkAbout1918-08-13 Regular MinutesAugust 13, 1918 The 11th Council of the Town of Tukwila met in regular session in the Council Chamber in Lutz Hall Tuesday evening. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Stevens. councilmembers Wallenberg Erickson Klein and Hemmick answering to the roll. Minutes of previous meeting were read and approved. The Mayor announced that new special meeting had been held on July 30, 1918. No bids for graveling having been presented. Superintendent of Streets no report Finance Committee - Councilmember Hemmick reported he had OK'd the bill of motorcycle officer Laeg for $25.00. fire and Police Committee no report Law and Ordinance - Councilmember Erickson presented two new Ordinances to be taken up under New Business. Health Committee no report The Chairman of the Health committee was instructed to investigate matter of City dump. It was reported to be fenced up. The report of the City Treasurer was read and ordered placed on file. Report of the Poundmaster was read and ordered placed on file. Deputy clerk reported she had sent the list of 96 registered names to the Secretary of State I.M. Howell as requested by letter. The receipts for fines collected for speeding amounting to the sum of $508.50 were read by Clerk. Report from county Treasurer was read and ordered placed on file. Councilmember Kassner entered and took his seat in the Council. An ordinance fixing the compensation of the police judge and of special police officers of the Town of Tukwila was read. councilmember Klein seconded by Councilmember wallenberg made a motion that Ordinance 72 be accepted. and placed upon its final passage and warrants were authorized to be drawn by the Clerk. With the correction under Section I, making it read Hearing Cause and docketing $1.00 instead of $2.00. The ordinance was passed on roll call. councilmember Wallenberg Erickson Klein Kassner and Hemmick voting yes. Bills of Police Justice and motorcycle officer Long wre then OK'd by the Finance Committee. The report of Municipal Judge read and ordered placed on file. Communication from City Attorney Jones was read and ordered placed on file. Communication from Frank Gates to Mr. A.E. Guist Chairman Tukwila Council of Patriotic Service relating to fine on Pacific Highway was read. councilmember Erickson moved seconded by Councilmember Klein that letter be answered and request denied. Communication from Earl M. Ballard read and Clerk instructed to answer same and enclose bill for $0.05. communication from Welfare League read and ordered files. following Bills were read and OK'd by Finance Committee with exception of bills of Police Judge and motorcylce officer which were laid over for a few minutes. It was suggested that Renton Lumber Company be paid only $175.00 in account but in roll call Councilmember Wallenberg Erickson Klein and Kassner voted against this. Voting that bill be paid in full. Councilmember Klein made a motion seconded by Councilmember Wallenberg that the Clerk be authorized to draw warrants for all bills OK'd by Finance Committee. Carried.
