HomeMy WebLinkAbout1918-07-09 Regular MinutesJuly 9, 1918 The 11th Council of the Town of Tukwila met in regular session in the Council Chamber in Lutz Hall Tuesday evening. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Stevens. Councilmembers Wallenberg Erickson and Klein answering the roll call. Minutes of previous meeting were read and approved. Councilmember Hemmick took his seat in the Council during reading of minutes. Superintendent of Streets Klein reported the streets to be in good condition. He also reported that he would see Greene about securing a location on his property at corner of Tukwila Avenue and Main Street on which to build a tool house. Finance Committee no report Fire Police Committee no report Law and Ordinance no report Councilmember Klein made a motion seconded by Councilmember Wallenberg that the License Ordinance be laid over to the next meeting. Health Committee - the report of Councilmember Wallenberg that the Slaughter House was in good condition and was accepted by the Council. Special Committee - Mayor Stevens reported that he had spoken to County Commissioner Smith regarding the Bridge planks and found them to be all heavy timber. He also had spoken of the thistles along the highway, and was informed that a force of men was working along the highway and would clean them up. He ahd also seen Mr. Mathis of the Interurban Line and was informed that the thistles had been cut down along the right-of-way. The Mayor also suggested if anyone knows of thistles growing on any property he should report the fact. The Clerk was instructed to notify Mr. Carl Ballard of Seattle, Second and Cherry Streets, of thistles growing on his property. The report of the Town Treasurer was read and ordered placed on file. Communication from H.E. Clark regarding Resolution 10 sidewalk in front of his property in Tukwila Avenue and Main Street read. Councilmember Klein seconded by councilmember Hemmick moved that bids be called for the construction of sidewalk according to places and specifications on the north side of the Clark property. Bids to be opened at a regular meeting of the Council on August 13, 1918. Following bills were read and OK'd by the Finance Committee: F. Gott $1.50 Frank McDonald $12.50 Caroline Lutz $2.00 Puget Sound Traction Light and Power Company $21.25 C.P. Jensen $18.93 S.H. Stevens $0.75 Greene and Greene $1.75 John Klein $27.00 Alicia d. Stevens $5.00 Renton Lumber Company $375.81 Total $491.89 It was moved and seconded that all bills OK'd by Finance Committee be accepted and Clerk be authorized to draw warrants for same with exceptions of the Renton Lumber Company, which was laid over until the next meeting, thus leaving total of bills for the month $116.08. An ordinance amending and supplementing Ordinance 22 passed and approved under date of February 8, 1910, and providing for the preservation of morality peace safety and good order in the Town of Tukwila was read by the Clerk. Upon motion of Councilmember Klein seconded by Councilmember Wallenberg, the ordinance was read by titel twice and placed upon its final passage. It was decided to leave the ordinance with Attorney Jones for his opinion and if necessary to add another section including penalty for allowing any auto to r run engine while taking gas. Upon roll call Councilmember Wallenberg Erickson Klein and Hemmick voted yes and the ordinance 71 was passed. Upon motion of Councilmember Hemmick seconded by Councilmember Erickson, Superintendent of Streets Klein was authorized to advertise for bids for graveling Main Street four inches thick, 12 feet wide from the Pacific Highway to Tukwila Avenue bids to be opened at a special meeting of the Town Council to be held on July 30, 1918 at 8 PM. Street Committee was instructed to fix the planks on the sidewalk at Engel's corner, and to fix sidewalk on Pacific Highway near Lutz residence.
