HomeMy WebLinkAbout1918-03-08 Regular MinutesMarch 8, 1918 The 11th Council of Town of Tukwila met in regular session in the Council Chamber in Lutz Hall. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Stevens. Upon roll call Councilmembers Wallenberg Erickson Klein and Hemmick responded. The minutes of previous minutes were read and approved. Councilmember Kassner arrived after reading of the minutes. Upon motion of Councilmember Klein and seconded by Councilmember Wallenberg, the Clerk was instructed to draw up resolutions declaring deepest sympathy of the Town of Tukwila to the family of Mr. W.G. Lutz who died suddenly on that day. Resolution to bear signatures of all the members of the council. Carried Unanimously. Report of Standing Committees Streets and Sidewalks - Councilmember reported that the sewer had been on Main Street. That sidewalk had put in on Maule Avenue, that he had the Butchers who couldn't specificy when they could give time for hauling gravel, that the posts for the highway had arrived, and that the gutter should be put in as like planks would go. Finance no report Fire and Police no report Law and Ordinance - councilmember Erickson reported had ordinance for speed limit Health no report Treasurer report was read and ordered J. Johnson $32.00 J.W. Pierce $28.40 G.C. Allfield $33.60 Caroline Lutz $2.00 Alicia D. STevens $5.00 chas Purcell $4.28 J.G. Hopkins $21.60 F. Gott $2.25 Total $129.13 On motion of Councilmember Klein seconded by councilmember Wallenberg, the Clerk was instructed to draw warrants for all bills OK'd by Finance Committee. It was left to the Health Committee to investigate and settle the matter concerning the slaughter house. Councilmember Klein seconded by Councilmember Hemmick moved that the Ordinance Committee be instructed to draft an ordinance. so that any slaughter house or any other business coming to Tukwila be under the supervision of and subject to license fee prescribed by the Council of Tukwila. Carried. The Mayor reported receiving the service flag from the Women's improvement Club of Tukwila. Upon motion of Councilmember Klein seconded by Councilmember Wallenberg, the Clerk was instructed to write a letter to the Improvement Club thanking the members for the service flag, and also that copies of said letter bearing signatures of Mayor and Councilmembers be sent to the parents of the boys represented by a star in the flag. Clerk reported that the Improvement was fixing up a little park in front of the Interurban Station and asked the Council to furnish a new Bulletin Board or to paint the old one. It was suggested that the Board could be painted and made to look presentable. The Mayor reported that he had been able to secure two teams from the County Commissioners to scrape road in Main Street following Monday, and taht two men would be needed to and the scrapers. Councilmember Erickson seconded by Councilmember Hemmick moved that Superintendent of Streets be instructed to secure necessary men to work with teams supplied by the County. Carried. An ordinance regulating speed of motor vehicles through highway in Town of Tukwila was read and laid over until the next meeting. Councilmember Kassner suggested that clause, to stop the motore when taking gas be inserted in Ordinance. It was suggested that when the signs were put up in the Highway, taht a sign slow be put up near crossing between store and Interurban Station. Upon motion of Councilmember Erickson seconded by Councilmember Hemmick, Superintendent of Streets Klein was instructed to see Mr. Berg at foot of Engel Hill about putting a couple of planks in front of his house covering the mud hole there. Councilmember Kassner reported that Mr. Clark said he was willing to put in sidewalk in front of his property. councilmember Klein was instructed to set the grade on Tukwila Avenue between Main Street and Warren Avenue.
