HomeMy WebLinkAbout1918-02-12 Regular MinutesFebruary 12, 1918 The 11th Council of the Town of Tukwila met in regular session in the Council Chamber in Lutz Hall. Meeting was called to order by Mayor Stevens. Upon roll call Councilmembers Wallenberg Erickson Klein and Hemmick responded. Councilmember Kassner being absent. Minutes of previous meeting were read and after following correction, approved. Whereas the reference to the $0.11 difference between the Treasurer's and Town Clerk's annual report showed a discrepancy of $0.11 was somewhat definite. The Mayor suggested that it showed short in the minutes of this meeting that the $0.11 referred to was a balance in favor of the Town of Tukwila, which ahd been carried by National Bank of Commerce for several years when expenditure had not been successfully accounted for therefore in order to strike a proper balance, the Town Treasurer was authorized to add this amount of $0.11 to his amount on hand in order that in the future no confusion would arise. The Council acquiesced unanimously to this suggestion and it was so ordered to be spread upon the minutes. Standing Committees Finance no report Streets - Councilmember Klein reported that the lake in Mr. Wallenberg's property had disappeared, that the lumber for the sign posts in the Pacific Highway had been ordered, that he had not yet been able to get in touch with Mr. clark concerning sidewalk at corner of Tukwila and Main Streets and it was decided for the Clerk to write the letter when Mr. Clark's address was furnished, and that he Mr. Klein had looked over Riverside Avenue near Hemmick's and was given further time in this road. Law and Ordinance Committee no report Health Committee no report The report of the Town Treasurer was read and ordered placed in file. Municipal Magistrate no report Superintendent of Streets Klein reported on work on Main Street. The weather was bad and he could not attain labor. The server in the was stopped up with rocks and he recommended a new sewer be put in. Councilmember Hemmick seconded by Councilmember wallenberg moved that the Superintendent of Streets see that a new sewer is put in and the street is fired at once. Carried. Police Chief reported he had made no arrests. The Clerk reported that the Steigler deed had been recorded. Special COmmittees The Mayor reported that the Town of Tukwila had lost its suit against the County Commissioners for brick on the new highway. The decision of the Supreme Court was then read by the Clerk. A communication was read by Parker Gould for announcing their change of address and reorganization. A communication was read from Mrs. A.S. White from Decatur, GA regarding sidewalk in front of her property. Letter placed on file. The report in the Town of Tukwila by the Bureau of Inspection and Supervisor of Public Offices was read by the Clerk. Councilmember Klein seconded by Councilmember Wallenberg made a motion that the City Attorney be instructed to write the Bureau of Inspection answering the report of the State Bureau Inspector. Carried. On motion the report was placed in file. Following bills were read by the Clerk: Caroline Lutz $2.00 Puget Sound Traction and Light Company $42.50 Lowman and Hanford $7.20 S.H. Stevens - recording Steigler's deed $75.00 Alicia D. Stevens $5.00 Total $57.45 Councilmember Klein seconded by Councilmember Wallenberg moved that all bills OK'd by Finance Committee have warrants drawn for same by Clerk, except Light Bill, four nights service to be deducted. Deputy Clerk reported that warrants for Clerk's salary for the month of November December 12, 1917 had been lost. Councilmember Klein seconded by Councilmember Hemmick made a motion that a duplicate warrant the and warrant number 1158 to become void. The Mayor reported that the salary of the Town Clerk according to law, could not be raised during term of office. The Health Ordinance 70 prohibiting and providing for the abatement of any source of filth a nuisance deterimental to Health and providing a penalty for violations hereof was read by Clerk and placed on its final passage. Upon roll call Councilmembers Wallenberg Erickson Klein and Hemmick voting yes. The Mayor spoke of the Park on the Interurban right-of-way. He had seen Mr. matthis of the Traction company who was willing to help make a garden in the Packing strip. concerning sidewalk in Maule Avenue, Mr. Hopkins was to get Mr. Peirce to fill in rocks and put the walk on top of rocks.
