HomeMy WebLinkAbout1917-12-11 Regular MinutesDecember 11, 1917 The 10th Council of the Town of Tukwila met in regular session in the Council chamber in Lutz Hall. Meeting was called to order by Mayor Stevens. Councilmembers Wallenberg Erickson Klein Kassner and Hemmick answering to the roll call. Minutes of previous meeting read and approved. Standing Committees Finance Street Fire and Police Law and Ordinance and Health Committees, no report. The report of the City Treasurer was read and ordered placed on file. The Clerk reported receiving $26.85 from Chas P. Storey for cast of sidewalk in front of Lot 16 Block 7 Main Street. Clerk reported that State Examiner, Mr. Shank had examined the books of the Town of Tukwila and reported that the method of bookkeeping was not the best, and that the vouchers had not been made out legally. Councilmember Klein seconded by Councilmember Erickson moved that the Clerk be instructed to secure the necessary books suggested by State Examiner Shank. Also to secure a monthly report book for the Treasurer. Carried. Report of the County Treasurer was read and placed on file. Special Committees Mayor Stevens reported that City Examiner Packer stated it would take 24,000 feet of pipe to put water into Tukwila at a cost of $70.00 alone. No further report on the Brick Highway. Clerk was instructed to write to Sweet Causey foster and Company to the effect that at this present time Tukwila did not intend to bond the Town, on the motion of Councilmember Klein seconded by Councilmember Kassner. Carried. A communication from the US Administrator was read and ordered placed on file. Following bills were read by Clerk and OK'd by Finance Committee: Puget Sound Traction Light and Company $21.25 Joseph Hozack $5.00 Lowman and Hanford Company $1.25 Caroline Lutz $2.00 Mary Klein $5.00 R.H. Kassner $37.10 Mrs. H.H. Hemmick $5.00 Mrs. S.E. O'Byrne $5.00 J. Johnson $6.40 J.L. Pierce $3.00 Renton Wagon Works $2.50 J.M. Waughin $15.60 Total $109.10 Councilmember Kassner seconded by Councilmember Klein moved that the Clerk be authorized to draw warrants for all bills OK'd by Finance Committee. Carried. Superintendent of Streets Klein reported that work on Maule Avenue near Hopkin's place had been attended to, that the gutters were partly finished, that gravel had been hauled into Highland Drive. It was advised to put another light in the viaduct. New Business Canvassing ballots of last Election: Report from Election Committee that ballots had been canvassed. Following report from Judges and Inspector, Election on December 4th: B.H. Kassner 2 year term 38 F.J. Klein 2 year term 40 G. Wallenberg 1 year term 41 C.P. Jensen Town Treasurer 42 Mrs. Klein 1 Mrs. frost 1 Mrs. Henke 1 Motion was made by councilmember Erickson seconded by Councilmember Hemmick that report be accepted and placed on file. Carried. Ordinance 69 approving the assessment roll for the construction of sidewalks on both side of Main Street from Highland Drive to Tukwila Avenue in the Town of Tukwila and declaring the amounts assessed against the several lots in such improvement district a lien thereon was read. Councilmember Klein seconded by Councilmember Erickson moved that Ordinance 69 read by the Clerk be read by title and put to final vote of Council. On roll call: Wallenberg yes Erickson yes Klein yes Kassner yes Hemmick yes Ordinance was declared passed by unanimous vote of Council. councilmemer Hemmick reported Riverside, south of Clarence Avenue in bad condition. Councilmember Kassner reported that Mr. Guist had asked for an established grade in Tukwila Avenue from Main Street to top of Kassner Hill. Mr. Klein was instructed to see Mr. Clark owner of corner lot at Tukwila and Main regarding sidwalk. Superintendent of STreets recommended that a walk be laid on South side of Tukwila Avenue between Main Street and Warren Avenue. Mayor Stevens suggested that Tukwila should have a service flag for those who had gone to On motion of Councilmember Erickson seconded by Councilmember Hemmick the Clerk was instructed to write to the improvement Clerk suggesting that the ladies make a service flag to present to the Town of Tukwila.
