HomeMy WebLinkAbout1917-11-13 Regular MinutesTukwila Washington November 13, 1917 The 10th Council of the Town of Tukwila met in regular session in the Council Chamber in Lutz Hall. Meeting was called to order by Mayor Stevens. Councilmembers Wallenberg Erickson Kassner Klein and Hemmick being present. Minutes of previous meeting read and approved. Standing Committees Street and Sidewalks no report Finance no report Fire, Police and Water no report Law and Ordinance no report Health no report The report of the City Treasurer was read by the Clerk and ordered placed on file. Report of the Poundmaster was read and ordered placed on file. Superintendent of Streets Klein reported that the sidewalk in Main Street from Highland Drive to Tukwila Avenue was finished. That the lumber for the gutter had arrived but that he was unable to find any in to help put it in. That the sidewalk at Riverside and Tukwila Avenue had been attended to and gutter also fixed. Special Committees Water. Mayor Stevens reported that City Attorney Jones had found that the Town could only be bonded for 5% of the assessed valuation, when the Town does not secure its own water plant. Brick Highway - final arguments had been under last Friday and no decision had been recorded by the Supreme Court. Communication from Dr. Holtz Health Officer regarding chicken pox in Town of Tukwila was read by the Clerk and ordered placed on file. Communication from United States Attorney Clay Allen regarding tearing down posters for Liberty Bond read by clerk and ordered placed on file. Communication from the Port Commission regarding closing of Registration Books for Port Election on December 1, 1917 was read and ordered palced on file. The following bills were read by the Clerk Puget Sound Traction Light and Power company $21.25 Caroline Lutz $2.00 Melton Woun $6.40 chas Purcell $12.45 Joseph Hozack $5.00 Seattle Paint company $4.75 Lowman and Hanford Company $7.43 J.L. Durbin $9.60 J. Johnson $36.80 D. Stauffer $6.80 C.L. Sanders $57.75 R.H. Kassner $59.25 Total $229.48 The Finance Committee reported that all bills had been OK except that of R.H. Kassner which ahd not been OK'd by Superintendent of Streets. Councilmember Kassner seconded by Councilmember Erickson moved that all bills OK'd by the Finance committee and Superintendent of Streets be accepted and that the Clerk be authorized to draw warrants for same, and also to draw warrants for each bill as were held over from previous meeting. Carried Councilmember Kassner reported the condition of street in Tukwila and Kenny Boulevard and Superintendent of Streets was instructed to use his judgment in improvising the same. The assessment roll for new sidewalk in Main Street was presented by Superintendent of Streets Klein and read by the Clerk. It was moved by Councilmember Kassner seconded by Councilmember Wallenberg that the assessment roll be accepted. Carried. Councilmember Hemmick seconded by councilmember Wallenberg moved that the Clerk be instructed to publish the necessary notices and to notify the three property owners that the Council would hear any protests to the proposed assessment roll at the regular meeting on December 11, 1917. Motion carried. councilmember Klein seconded by councilmember Kassner moved that the Clerk be instructed to post notices for annual election on December 1917, two year and one year Councilmembers to be elected and that all names of candidates for above officers to be in the hands of the Town Clerk on November 24, 1917. Motion carried. The Mayor instructed the Law, Ordinance and Election committee to appoint the officers for Board of Election and to receive all necessary expenses.
