HomeMy WebLinkAbout1917-09-11 Regular MinutesSeptember 11, 1917 The 10th council of the Town of Tukwila met in regular session in the Council Chamber in Lutz Hall, Tuesday evening. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Stevens. councilmembers Wallenberg, Klein and Hemmick answered to the roll call. Councilmember Erickson and Kassner being absent. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Reports of Standing Committees Street Committee Chairman not present Fiannce Committee Chairman Hemmick reported that the committee ahd OK all bills except a lumber bill in which had been found an alleged error. That all bills of labor on the Main Street grade including those of E. Ellis, The Higgins Company and G.W. Loveberry had been OK and warrants ordered drawn. Fire and Police Committee Chairman Erickson not present. Law and Ordinance Committee no report Health Committee Chairman Wallenberg reported that the Health Officer Dr. Holtz and Health Committee would meet Sunday evening to draft suitable health ordinances for the Town of Tukwila. Councilmember Klein was instructed to report the case of infantile parallysis in the Gilliland family to the Health Officer. The report of the County Tax from County Treasurer read and ordered filed. Report of Town Treasurer was read and ordered placed on file. Superintendent of Streets Klein reproted that the work on Main Street was nearly finished. The only delay now was that they were unable to get lumber delivered. He then read his report of expenditures to date in the Main Street road, which report was then ordered placed on file. Report of Poundmaster Parsons was read by the Clerk and ordered placed in file. Special Committees Mayor Stevens reported progress on Pacific Highway. Delay caused by fact that Judge Dykeman was away on vacation and could not sign necessary papers. Communications from the State Highway commissioner regarding sign posts in the Pacific Highway was read and ordered placed on file. Letter from Oswald L. Bunnell and Company offering furnish bonds was read and ordered placed on file. communication from T. Alvord concering assessment on property in Main Street and Clerk reported same had already been answered. Communication from Chas P. Storey asking for his bill for laying sidewalk in front of his property. Clerk was instructed to send said bill to Mr. storey and also to send bill to Mrs. White in Atlanta, GA for laying sidewalk in front of property in Main Street. Following Bills were then read by the Clerk and OK by the Finance Committee. Dr. Kenneth Holtz $3.50 Joseph Hozack $5.25 Mr. Purcell $3.00 Puget Sound traction Light power Company $21.25 J. Johnson $45.00 Caroline Lutz $2.00 sam Myers $3.00 C.L. sanders $23.50 Total $106.50 Councilmember Klein made a motion that all bills OK'd by the Finance Committee be accepted and the Clerk to draw warrants for same. Carried. New Business Councilmember Klein reported that the rain was washing over the sidewalk on Tukwila Avenue that were in bad shape. Councilmember Hemmick seconded by Councilmember Wallenberg moved that the Superintendent of Streets be authorized to repair the sidewalk in Tukwila Avenue between Main Street and Riverside. Councilmember Klein reported taht G. Eggler was unable to lay the sidewalk in front of his property in Main Street and that the Town was laying the work. The Mayor spoke of the necessity of securing a place tool house to keep the tools belonging to the Town. Councilmember Hemmick seconded by Councilmember Wallenberg made a motion that the Superintendent of Streets be authorized to look for a place to keep the tools. Carried. The Clerk read the estimated budget for the year 1918. Councilmember Klein moved that the budget be placed on file and to instruct the Clerk to post the notices in three conspicuous places and date of first meeting of Council for considering the Budget. Council then adjourned to meet on October 9, 1917. Joseph Hozack Clerk
