HomeMy WebLinkAbout1917-08-14 Regular MinutesThe 10th Council of the town of Tukwila met in Regular Meeting in the Council Chamber in Lutz Hall Tuesday evening on August 14, 1917. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Stevens. City Clerk Hozack was not present. Alma D. Stevens was then appointed Deputy Clerk and was sworn in office by Justice of the Peace J.L. Durbin. Answering in the roll call were Councilmembers Wallenberg Erickson Klein Kassner and Hemmink. Minutes of previous meeting were read and approved. Report of Committees Councilmembers Kassner Chairman of Street committees gave his report on Streets. Councilmember Hemmick of Finance Committee reported that the Committee had OKed all bills except that presented by Councilmember Kassner. Council Erickson of Fire, police, Water and Light Committee reported the Fire on Meyer's Hill. No report from the law and Ordinance Committee Health Committee. No report. The report of the Treasurer was read and ordered placed on file. Special Committees Mayor Stevens reported progress on the new Pacific Highway. Denied the Superceding Board by the Superior Court the case had been taken before the Supreme Corut in a Writ of Cert Councilmember Erickson reported that Stacy Shoun was not the owner of the property at Black River. Owner unknown and in Alaska. A communication was read from the City comptroller of Seattle regarding sidewalk and the Clerk was ordered to notify Superintendent of Streets Mr. Chase that Tukwila was not laying any walks in the Interurban Addition at the present time. The following bills were read by the Clerk and OKed by the Finance Committee R.H. kassner 77.38 J. Johnson 52.80 Renton Wagon Works 9.45 W. Wood 83.90 Total $405.23 A rebate of $4.00 was returned on the Bill and a motion to accept this balance to be turned over to the City Treasurer was made by Councilmember Kassner and seconded by Councilmember Klein. Councilmember Klein made a motion that warrants be drawn by the Clerk on bills OKed by the Finance Committee. The Clerk reported that there was not sufficient stationary on hand. A motion was made by Councilmember Kassner seconded by Councilmember Klein that the Clerk be instructed to get enough stationary for the office. Mayor Stevens then reproted that councilmember kassner's resignation as Superintendent of Streets had been accepted and that the Mayor had appointed Councilmember Klein as Superintendent of Streets and his name to go on record as such. Councilmember Erickson made a motion seconded by councilmember Klein that a resolution authorizing the borrowing of $600.00 at 7% from the National Bank of Commerce to meet the necesssary expenes be adopted. motion carried. Resolution 8 passed on roll call. Councilmembers Wallenberg yes Erickson yes Klein yes Kassner yes Hemmink yes Resolution 9 presented authorizing and empowering the mayor to appoint any member of the Town Council as Superintendent of Streets such officer to act without compensation and at the pleasure of the Mayor. Councilmember Klein amde a motion that the resolution be accepted as read. Resolution was passed upon roll call vote. Councilmembers Wallenberg yes Erickson yes Klein yes Kassner yes Hemmick yes The Clerk was instructed by the Mayor to ahve an itemized report of all expenditures upon the Main Street road ready for the next meeting. Mr. Weiderman brought to the attention of the Council about the dirt pile in road at the Gilliland Place. Councilmember Klein was appointed by the Mayor to speak to Mr. gilliland and see that the road is made passable. Mr. Jensen called to the notice of the county that boys bathing in the river near his residence were making a nuisance of tresspassing. A motion was made that the matter be referred to the Police Chief to be investigated and the nuisance abated summarily. Motion carried. Mayor Stevens stated that logs should be palced at the bulk head where the Main Street fill had been made. Councilmember Klein reported that a portion of the fence upon the properties of Mrs. Groomes and Mr. Carlson was 8 inches in the Street. The matter was left to the Street committee. Councilmember Erickson spoke of the thistles at Black River. Upon motion of Councilmember Wallenberg seconded by Councilmember Klein the Council adjourned to meet Tuesday evening on September 11, 1917. J. Hozack Clerk
