HomeMy WebLinkAbout1917-02-13 Regular MinutesTukwila Washington February 13, 1917 The 10th council of the Town of Tukwila met in regular session in Lutz Hall. Mayor Stevens called the meeting to order. On roll call the following Councilmembers answered to their names: Kassner Erickson Hemmick Wallenberg Minutes of last Regular and Special meeting read and approved. Street Committee Chairman Kassner reported that owing to the weather no work had been done on the Streets and that Tukwila Avenue and Kenny Boulevard was in a bad condition. Motion by Kassner seconded by Erickson that $50.00 be appropriated to fix the streets at Tukwila Avenue and Kenny Boulevard. Motion carried. Finance Committee Fire and Police Law and Ordinance Health and Sanitation all no reports Mayor Stevens stated that there was a possibility of something being done favorable to Mr. Ton and his neighbors getting the electric light. They desire and have petitioned for. Mayor Stevens made a report on the matter of the County filling Maule Avenue from the slide on the new Pacific Highway report very favorable. Motion by Erickson seconded by Hemmick that councilmember Wallenberg Chairman of Health Committee inspect the school building, make a report and also see the school directors on the matter. Motion carried. Motion by Kassner seconded by Erickson that Mr. Woods be given the permission to remove the old rotten sidewalk at the side of his property. Motion carried. Motion by Kassner seconded by Erickson that the Health Commitee be on the lookout for a dumping ground for the rubbish of the Town. Motion carried. Bills presented by the Clerk, OK by the Finance Committee and warrants ordered drawn for the same following are the bills Puget Traction Light and Power Company for Light $21.25 caroline Lutz hall rent $2.00 Robert M. Jones professional services $25.00 Joseph Hozack Clerk's salary and expenses $5.25 John Christensen bury a dog $0.75 Total $54.25 Treasurer read by the Clerk and ordered placed on file. Motion by Erickson seconded by Wallenberg that Ordinance 6 regulating the keeping of dogs be enforced, also that the Clerk post notices in three prominent places. Motion carried. Resolution 5 for the construction of the sidewalk on both side of Main STreet from Highland Drive to Tukwila Avenue read by the Clerk. motion by Kassner seconded by Wallenberg that the resolution for the construction of the sidewalk be adopted. Roll call showed the following votes: Councilmembers Kassner Hemmick Erickson Wallenberg all yes. clerk ordered to post notices of the resolution to each abutting property owner. Ordinance then introduced and read by the Clerk providing for the grading of Main STreet from the new Pacific Highway to the south line of Tukwila Avenue. Motion by Kassner seconded by Hemmick that the ordinance be read by title and placed on its final passage. Roll call showed the following votes: councilmembers Kassner Hemmick Erickson Wallenberg all yes. Mayor declared Ordinance 66 passed. Motion by Kassner seconded by Erickson that bids be called for the grading of Main Street as provided by Ordinance and that the Clerk advertise for bids for the work. All specifications to be turned over to the Clerk. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned to meet in regular session on March 13, 1917. Joseph Hozack clerk Motion by Councilmember Erickson seconded by Councilmember Hemmick that the matter of the Town doing the grading on Main Street be laid over for 30 days. Motions carried. Motion by councilmember erickson seconded by Councilmember Wallenberg that the property owners on Main Street have until June 12, 1917 to put in their sidewalks and also the date date of the resolution be changed until June 12, 1917. Motion carried. Mayor Stevens reported that he had interviewed Mr. Mathias of the Tacoma Interurban who stated that he would have a station at Black River Junction as soon as possible. Acting upon the statement made by Mayor Stevens that there was great possibility of the County Commissioners awarding a contract for paving the new Pacific Highway through Tukwila with concrete and thus ignoring the pledge made by the former commissioners of right-of-way. Agent Noice when a franchise was granted the County for the right-of-way, that brick would be used. Councilmember Erickson moved that the Clerk be instructed to see that a resolution of protest be drafted to be signed by the Mayor and presented to the County Board. Motion being seconded by Councilmember Hemmick it was passed unanimously. Resolution 6 Upon recommendation of councilmember Kassner, the Mayor appointed and the Council confirmed the name of Dr. K.J. Holtz to be Health Officer for the Town of Tukwila, put to a motion. Motion carried. Mayor Stevens reported that he interviewed Mr. gillies of the Puget Sound Traction Light and Power Company regarding the light that Mr. Ton and his neighbors petitioned for, he stated that the company engineer estimated it would cost $735.00 to put the system in. He stated that his company was willing to go to the extent of $400.00 on the system and that Mr. Ton and his neighbors would have to meet the rest of the estimate. Motion by Councilmember Kassner seconded by Councilmember Hemmick that the Light Committee call upon the people who petitioned for light to see what they would do in the matter of assisting the company.
