The 9th Council of the
Town of Tukwila met in Regular Session in
Lutz Hall. Mayor Stevens
called the meeting to order. On roll call
the following Officer's answered to their
names: Councilmembers Kassner Klein
Hemmick Erickson Myers. Minutes of
the last regular meeting read and approved
and ordered placed on file. Chairman
Kassner of the Street Committee reported
that owing to weather conditions no work
had been done on the streets of the Town.
Finance Committee no report
Fire Committee no report
Law and Ordinance no report
Health no report
Treasurer, Clerk, Municipal Magistrate
and Marshall and Poundmaster's monthly and
annual reports read and approved and
ordered placed on file.
Mayor Stevens made a special report
on the impounding of stock by a private citizen
and making no report to the official
poundmaster. He reported that he had
taken the matter up with Attorney Jones
and was informed that doubtless similar
cases had been brought before lower Courts
but, that there is no record of any case
being appealed to the Supreme Court.
Communication from Mrs. H.A. Coats
requesting that the City sell her some
old lumber was read by the Clerk, Chairman Kassner
of the Street Committee reported
that the City can use all of the above
mentioned lumber. Motion by Councilmember
Klein seconded by Myers that
the Clerk be instructed to write
Mrs. Coats telling her that the City has
no lumber for sale. Motion carried.
Hans Weiderman's resignation as
Marshall and Poundmaster was read and
ordered placed on file.
Petition presented by J. Ton with six signature attached
requesting Electric Light petition was
ordered placed on file. Motion by Councilmember
Kassner seconded by councilmember
Erickson that the Mayor do what he
can in the matter he promised to give it
his earnest attention.
All bills read by the Clerk and those receiving the OK of
the Finance Committee. The Clerk was
authorized to draw warrants for same.
Motion by Klein seconded by Kassner
that the matter of putting in some
work on Mountain Rainier be laid on the
table for the New Council to act on.
Motion carried.
A report of the donation
to the Main Street viaduct Chairman
Kassner of the Donations Committee.
Motion by Councilmember Kassner seconded
by Klein that Caroline Lutz
receive a hearty vote of thanks for her
generous and free hearted work towards
securing donations for the Main Street
viaduct. Motion unanimous.
On behalf of the Council, Mayor Stevens
thanked the people of Tukwila
for their literal support.
Motion
by Councilmember Klein seconded by
Myers that the 9th Council of the Town of Tukwila
now adjourn, sine die. Motion carried.

Immediately after the 9th Council
of the Town of Tukwila adjourned,
S.H. Stevens Mayor elect was sworn into
office by Judge Durbin. Councilmember elect
Hemmick, Erickson, Wallenberg
were then sworn in by Judge Durbin.
The Mayor then called the first meeting
of the 10th Council of the
Town of Tukwila to order Treasurer elect
C.P. Jensen was then sworn in by
Judge Durbin. The Mayor reappointed
Joseph Hozack, Clerk and after being sworn in
took his seat. Roll call was then made by
the Clerk and the following Councilmembers
answered to their names: Hemmick
Erickson Wallenberg newly elected and
Councilmember Kassner and
Klein hold over the name of J.L. Durbin
for Municipal Magistrate was then
presented by the Mayor and confirmed by
the Council. Judge Durbin was then
sworn in by Mayor Stevens. The names of
Robert M. Jones for City Attorney and S.C. Parker
for Civil Engineer was presented
by the Mayor and their appointments
confirmed by the Council.
The Mayor
then read the names of the Councilmembers who
will constitute the Standing Committees
for the ensuing term which are as follows:
Street and Walk

F. Klein
Finance and Auditing
J.B. Hemmick
A.J. Erickson
Fire, Police, Water and LIght
A.J. Erickson
G.W. Wallenberg
Law and Ordinance and Transportation
F. Klein
J.B. Hemmick
Health and Sanitation and Election
G.W. Wallenberg
B.H. Kassner
Treasurer C.P. Jensen's bond in the sum
of $1,000.00 was read and
approved by the Council and a warrant
ordered drawn in payment of the same.
Chairman Kassner and Councilmember Klein
of the Street Committee was authorized to
wait upon James Gilliland and see what
arrangements could be made to secure
lumber for walk. Motion by Councilmember
Kassner seconded by Councilmember Hemmick
and carried that Councilmember Klein be
requested to make a draft of the
proposed grading to be done between
Highalnd Drive and Tukwila Avenue on Main
Street and also to prepare necessary resolutions
to be presented at the next meeting for
the construction of new sidewalks on
both sides of Main Street between Highland
Drive and Tukwila Avenue.
Chairman Kassner of the Street Committee
was authorized to place a railing on
the high walk along
Clarence Avenue, west of Main Street.
Ordinance was introduced for the
appointment of a Town Marshall by the
Mayor and fixing his salary at $30.00 per year.
On motion by councilmember Kassner
seconded by councilmember Erickson the
ordiannce was read by TItle and placed
upon its final passage. On roll call
the following vote resulted: Councilmembers
Kassner Klein Hemmick Erickson
and Wallenberg all yes. Mayor declared
the ordinance passed. Ordinance 64
Chairman Kassner was authorized to secure
quarters for the storing of the City's
scrapers and tools.
Meeting then adjourned to meet in
regular session on February 13, 1917.
