HomeMy WebLinkAbout1916-12-12 Regular MinutesTukwila Washington December 12, 1916 The 9th Council of the Town of Tukwila met in regular session in Lutz Hall. Mayor Stevens called the meeting to order. The following officers answered to their names: Councilmembers Kassner Klein Hemmick Erickson Myers. Minutes of the last regular meeting read and approved. Report of Standing Committees Councilmember Kassner Chairlman of the Street Commitee reported that the new viaduct on Maule Street was completed and advised that the walk be accepted by the Council. Report accepted. Chairman of the Street Committee made a further report that several street intersections were in need of repairs. He was authorized to have the work performed. Treasurer's report read and accepted. Mayor Stevens was given further time to report on the legality of private citizens impounding and holding stock without giving notice to the official poundmaster. a letter from the Culvert Pipe company of Portland in answer to the one written by the Clerk taht the price paid for the pipe was FOB shipping point but that they would the freight fill of the railway company and make the price FOB Tukwila. The communication was ordered placed on file. The Clerk was instructed to give the Washington League of Municipalities the names and addresses of all Town Officials current bills read by the Clerk and those receiving the Ok of the Finance Committee were ordered paid. A motion was made and carried that a vote of thanks be given to Frank McDonald contractor for the Maule Street viaduct. On roll call the vote was unanimous. Councilmember Kassner Chairman of the Donation Commiteee and representing the July 4th fund. Wire fund requested that all doantions received from various sources be applied on Lots 24, 25, 26, and 27 block of Hillmans Seattle Garden Tracts. These lots being included in the assessment made for the building of the Main Street viaduct. A communication from the Welfare League of Tukwila made the request that the Leagues' $25.00 donation for the walk be applied on the assessments of the above mentioned property. Chairman Kassner of the Street Committee presented the assessment roll for Main Street viaduct. Motion was made and seconded that the Assessment roll be accepted which was done by unanimous vote of the Council. Ordinance 65 An ordinance was introduced making the Seattle Star the official paper for the Town. On motion of councilmember Myers seconded by Klein the ordinance was placed upon its final passage and on roll call the following vote resulted: councilmember Kassner Klein Hemmick Erickson and Myers all yes. Mayor Stevens declared the ordinance passed. Ordinance 63 The Clerk was authorized to insert a notice in the Seattle STart to be run twice, once each week notifying the owners of the abutting property on the new Main Street viaduct that a meeting will be held in the Council Chambers to hear any protests on January 12, 1916. The clerk was instructed to write Mr. Steigler and explain the delay in regards to the acceptance of his deed for a right-of-way across his property. The Election Committee then canvassed the votes poled at the last General municipal election held on December 5, 1916. The committee reported that the following vote had been registered for the two tickets which partied voted in the Election. Peoples Ticket For Mayor S.H. Stevens 72 Treasurer C.P. Hall 38 Martin Lemon 35 E.N. engle 46 report of the Election committee Mayor Stevens declared that all candidates on the People's Ticket had been duly elected. A motion by Councilmember Erickson seconded by Klein was carried that Chairman Kassner of the Street Committee be authorized to place crushed rock at the crossing across the new Pacific highway at Black River Junction. Meeting then adjourned to meet in regular session on January 9, 1917. Joseph Hozack clerk
