HomeMy WebLinkAbout1916-08-08 Regular MinutesTukwila Town Hall August 8, 1916 The 9th Council of the Town of Tukwila met in regular session in Lutz Hall on August 8, 1916. Meeting was called to order by Mayor Stevens. Roll call showed the following officers present: Councilmember Kassner Klein Hemmick Myers Erickson. Minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Report of Standing committees, Councilmember Kassner Chairman of the Street Committee reported that obstructions had been placed across. Clarence Avenue at the intersection of Warren Avenue. Report was received and ordered placed on file. On motion of Councilmember Kassner seconded by Councilmember Myers Councilmember Klein was requested to survey Clarence Avenue from Warren Avenue to the new Pacific Highway and to make a profile of the grade to be used in the contemplated opening up of that thoroughfare. Motion carried. Councilmember Erickson reported no sale of the block and globes of the old lighting system. A motion by Councilmember Kassner seconded by Councilmember Klein and carried. The escrow agreement between the Town and Mr. Blankenship was referred to the Law and Ordinance Committee. The chairman of the Street Commitee was authorized to purchase the necessary pipe for the Main Street sewer. On motion of Councilmember Klein seconded by Councilmember Myers, the Clerkw as authorized to call for bids for the new sidewalk on Main Street from the new Pacific Highway to Highland Drive. Bids to be presented at the next regular meeting. Treasurer report received and ordered placed on file. On motion of Councilmember Klein seconded by councilmember Kassner, the Clerk was instructed to send a letter of thanks to the Welfare League for the offer of the $25.00 subscription towards defraying the expenses of the Main Street sidewalk. Motion carried. A communication received from Mr. White of Everett, Washington was ordered placed on file. The Clerk reported he had received return register cards from all the abutting property owners along Main Street affected by the proposed new sidewalk. Clerk was instructed to draw warrants for al bills read and OK by Finance Committee. On motion of Councilmember Klein seconded by Councilmember Hemmick the Chairman of the Street committee was appointed to circulate a petition among the property owners owning property on the west side of Main Street, between Highland Drive and tukwila Avenue for the purpose of securing their signatures for a new sidewalk. The Clerk was instructed to communicate with the PSE (Puget Sound Electric) company requesting them to raise the gate at Black River Station 2.5 feet in order to allow a fill to be made at the approach to the new Pacific Highway and also to put along in working order. At the crossing, a request for a station was also made for Black River. On motion of Councilmember Klein seconded by Councilmember Kassner Councilmember Myers was instructed to see the County Commissioners in regards to opening a street from the west line of the Town limits to the Pacific Highway in the vicinity of Lummitt Avenue. The Bond of Marshall Hans Weiderman was accepted and a warrant in the sum of $2.50 to pay for the premium on the bond was ordered drawn. Mayor Stevens spoke of the possibility of securing water from the City of Seattle in as much as a likelihood that one of the new reservoirs might be constructed in Tukwila, he was instructed to investigate the matter and report at the next Regular Meeting. Meething then adjourned to meet in regular session on September 12, 1916.
