Council met in special session and called to order by Mayor Stevens.
Roll call showed the following officers present:
Mayor S.H. Stevens Councilmembers Kassner Klein and Lutz
Councilmembers Walkup and Stewart
being absent.
The Mayor addressed the Council and stated the object of the meeting
was to hear complaints from abutting property
owners in regards to the ordinance introduced at last regular meeting
making changes in the street to be opened up connecting
Clarence Avenue with Division Street and calling for the expense to be
assessed to the abutting property owners. Mr. Palmgren protested
against the street being opened any place other than the County
line also against assessing the cost to abutting property owners.
Mr. Ericson also protested against assessing cost to abutting
property owners. The ordinance was called for and received its
second reading. councilmember Lutz moved the ordinance be received
to take its usual course. Carried.
A resolution was then introduced
calling for the appointment of an attorney to commence condemnation
proceedings and fixing the compensation thereof. On
motion of Councilmember Lutz it was placed on file to be acted on
at next regular meeting. councilmember Lutz asked permission to put
phone wires on the electric light poles from the Post Office to
his mother's residence. The matter was referred to the Street
Superintendent with power to act. Mr. R.F. McQuiston of the Telephone Company
being present addressed the meeting stating the company had rejected
the Phone Ordinance passed on account of the Sec calling
for the use of the poles for electric light wires. He stated that
putting electric light wires on the poles the length they were using
would conflict with the State laws. He stated that if any electric company
extended lights into the Town there would be no longer poles used
in the place of their's and would be used by both Phone and Light company.
An ordinance was introduced permitting the phone company extending the
phone system into Tukwila and omitting the Sec in regards to
electric light wires. On motion of Councilmember Lutz it was placed
on file to be acted on at next meeting. There being no further
business the Council adjourned.
