Council net in regular session,on roll call the following members
were present. Mayor S.H. Stevens Council Inen,J R. Walkup N. Sandahi
W. H. Stewart &r;. R. Lutz Councilman Ives being absent.
Minutes of last
meeting read and approved after the following corrections as to
orris aions.Ist, that a committee had been appointed ,to find a place
to dump garbage. 2nd. That the acting Superintendent of Streets had been
instructed to remove the loose dirt in the road at the Engel Hill
and 3rd. That the motion by Councilman Ives for a five foot side
-walk was lost by not receiving a second ins tead of by vote.
Report of Comitteees
Acting Street Superintendent Walkup reported he had removed the loose dirt
in the road at the Engel Hill at a cost of $34.60 also that he had
employed Mr. Dollar seven days in removing the alder and willow
bushes from the streets to destroy and prevent the spread of the
tent caterpillars at an expense of. $16.80 He also reported that
they were unable to Take satisfactory arrangements with the owners
and claimant of land at a point where the Brookfield and Interurban tracts
join which was proposed for a right-of-way,and
recommend that this body take immediate steps in condemning such
land as will best conserve the interest of the taxpayers in
connecting Clarence Avenue with Division Street.
He also reported he had not yet found a suitable place to dump
garbage and asked for more time on this.also that the brush should
be out on Outlet Street to Division Street. that Outlet Street was impassable
and recommended that improvements be made there to the amount
of $15.00 On motion of Councilmember Lutz the report was accepted
ordered Placed on file and the matter of improving said Streets to
be taken up later.
Poundmaster Stauffer reported he had impounded
one cow which had been redeemed for $1.00. Also that Hamlin
Myers had taken up one of Stauffer's hogs and charged him $1.00
for it which he paid. Clerk reprorted he had written County Commissioners
in regard to filling in Tukwila Avenue near Pacific Highhway ,also
in regard to furnishing old lumber for sidewalk but had received no
reply from them
Treasurer reported as follows: amount on hand beginning of month
$127.74 Since received $28.00 since disbursed $27.D5
Balance at olose of month $128.59
The following bills were presented.

J.L. Durbin salary and street work $13.40

A recees of a few minutes was taken to allow the
Finance Committee to OK the bills. On reconvening on motion of Councilmember
Sandahl the bills were ordered paid. By the request of the
of Treasurer the Clerk was instructed to issue a warrant in favor of
The National Bank Of Commerce for interest on a warrant of 45 cents drawn for
them on the Emergency Fund.
A question came up as to whether or not a Councilman could accept
pay for work done for the Town. Mayor Stevens asked Councilman Sandahl
to take the chair so he could address the Council in regard to the
matter.He stated he had taken the question up with the County Attorney
and found that a Councilman can work and receive pay same as others
but can not furnish supplies or bid on contracts.
He spoke of Caterpillar Day which he stated had been a grand success
He stated he had been informed by Mr. Rhodes that they had held a
Caterpillar day in several localities. He recommended that there be
a resolution passed thanking the Principal and teachers of the
school,also Mr.& Mrs.Gott for the active part they took with the
children in making Caterpillar Day a success.
On motion of Councilman the Clerk was instructed write
Mr. Dimmitt Principal of the school the Misses
teachers, Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Gott.of the Childrens Home and
M.N. Rhodes state Horticulturist and express the thanks of the Mayor
and Town Council for the active part they took to make Caterpillar
Day a success. Two petitions for a sidewalk at the Engel Hill were
read,one for a walk four feet wide containing seven names and one
for a walk five feet wide containing 75 names.On motion of Council
man Lutz it was ordered placed on file.
discussion arose as to building the sidewalk. Councilmember Stewart
favored repairing the old and asked what it would cost. Councilmember
Walkup informed him it would cost about $30.00
Mayor Stevens submitted a diagram of the walk to be built also had
an ordinance prepared repealing the old sidewalk ordinace and
ordering the new walk to be 5 feet wide.
Councilmember Walkup made a motion that they defer further action in
the matter until next meeting and plans be submitted to correspond
to the diagram. On roll call this was carried unanimously.
The following Resolution was read. Whereas the citizens of Tukwila
have asked for the enjoyment of a more efficient mail service,and
Whereas,the Duwamish Valley Transportation Company a local corporation
have at the request of the citizens of Tukwila offered to deliver
the mail as required: Therefore be it resolved by the Town of
Tukwila that we ask the Postmaster of Seattle to give us better
service of said mails and that they be carried in the auto
busses of the said Duwamish Valley Transportation Company.
De it further resolved that a copy of these resolutions be
sent to the Postmaster of Seattle.
On motion of Councilman Lutz the resolution was adopted.
The Mayor asked the Council to have a man hired to cut weeds
alone the streets. Councilman Lutz made a motion that the
acting Superintendent of Streets hire a man for the work. Councilman
Walkup asked to have the streets named where the work was to be
done after discussion it was decided to hire a man not to exceed
three days and have the work done only on improved streets.
Motion carried. Councilman Walkup's report favoring condemning a strip
of land from Clarence Avenue to Division Street for a road was then taken
up and discussed. Councilman Lutz Made motion that the Chairman
of the Street Committee investigate this and make report at next meeting
of the cost of this Proeeedings. Motion carried.
On motion of Councilman Sandahl the acting street Superintendent was instructed
to hire some one to improve the road at the Ton Mill at a cost
not to exceed $20.00. Marshall Stauffer reported that the boys had
been cutting the wire fence at Mrs. Groome's place and committing
other depredations. Oouncilman Walkup stated Mrs.Myers wanted
the Town's tools removed from her building.On motion of Councilman
Lutz the acting Street Superintendent was instructed to attend to the
matter.
Councilman Walkup made a motion that a committee of three including
the chair be appointed to take up the matter of the condemnation
proceedings for a road from Clarence Avenue to Division Street.
Motion was lost by not receiving a second.
There being no further business the Council adjourned till next
regular meeting July 13th.
