RE: Confirmation of Kevin Fuhrer as
City of Tukwila Finance Director
It is my pleasure to advise the Council that Kevin Fuhrer has been selected to fill the
Finance Director position being vacated due to Alan Doerschel's retirement the first of
the year.
Kevin comes to us from the City of Normandy Park where he has been the Assistant
City Manager/Finance and Accounting Manager for the past five ye, ars. Prior to that, he
spent seven years working in accounting and management positions with Nooksack
Valley School District, South Central School District, and Wenatchee School District.
He is well respected for the quality of his work and his leadership abilities. Specific
areas of knowledge include, but are not limited to:
n Issuance of bonds
ca Budget preparation
n Risk management
~ LID's '
ca Forecasting
r~ Auditing
ca Long range planning models
n BARS
ca Bond rating process
n Investment management
[] Various financial computer applications
Some of the non-financial traits that stood out when considering Kevin for the Finance
Director position include:
Communication - Quality oral and written communication skills; the ability to act
as a liaison between different personality types.
[] Leadership - Ability to motivate a team through coaching, setting an example,
and interjecting humor into the workplace.
n Responsibility - Self-motivated and willing to set goals and work to achieve
them; takes responsibility, never assuming it is another person's responsibility.
[] Organization - Effective use of time and resources; looks at efficiency, plarming,
and accountability as essential elements of the position.
o Vision - Keeps a strategic eye on the fature and maintains a balanced focus on the
present.
Based on the combination of £actors Kevin brings to the workplace, I highly recommend
him for confirmation by the Tukwila City Council.
