SECTION Human Services Sister City Committee Planning Commission Equity Diversity Commission Arts Commission Parks Commission Library Advisory Board City of Tukwila Community Affairs and Parks Committee PRESENT Councilmembers: Joe Duffle, Chair; Joan Hernandez and Verna Seal Staff: Rick Still, Dave Johnson, Robert Eaton, Evie Boykan, Jack Pace, Shawn Hunstock, Steve Lancaster and Kimberly Matej CALL TO ORDER: Committee Chair Duffle called the meeting to order at 5:03 p.m. II. BUSINESS AGENDA A. 2010 Parks and Recreation Issues As information only, staff gave a brief overview on Parks and Recreation items that are expected to be brought to the Community Affairs Parks Committee during the next year. INFORMATION ONLY. B. Gender Eauitv Policy Staff reviewed a policy recently adopted by the Parks and Recreation Department regarding Non Discrimination in Community Athletics Program. Last year, the Washington State Senate passed a bill which requires cities to adopt and publish, as appropriate, a policy that prohibits discrimination on the basis of gender in the operation and administration of athletic programs. This legislation is applicable to recreational programming as well as athletic field and facility rentals. Although this policy is not a change in operations for the Parks and Recreation Department, policy language will now be incorporated into rental information packets and contracts. Additionally, the next Recreational Brochure will also state this policy. INFORMATION ONLY. C. Parks Proiect Undate As information only, staff gave a brief PowerPoint presentation on the status of three ongoing Parks projects: Tukwila Pond, Duwamish Riverbend Hill and Codiga Park. In regards to Tukwila Pond, both Committee Members and staff commented on the large amount of volunteers that have consistently provided assistance with renewal efforts. Staff reported that the Codiga Park project is almost complete, and will return to Committee soon for project closeout and acceptance. Finally, a portion of the Duwamish Riverbend Hill project is currently out to bid. Staff showed pictures of improvements to the Hill including graded steps and an outdoor classroom. INFORMATION ONLY. D. City Council Pre Retreat Budget Review The Committee reviewed the 2009 -10 Biennial Budget pages as listed below in preparation of the upcoming Council Retreat.
