II. BUSINESS AGENDA
A. 2010 Parks and Recreation Issues
As information only, staff gave a brief overview on Parks and Recreation items that are expected to be
brought to the Community Affairs Parks Committee during the next year. INFORMATION ONLY.
B. Gender Eauitv Policy
Staff reviewed a policy recently adopted by the Parks and Recreation Department regarding Non
Discrimination in Community Athletics Program.
Last year, the Washington State Senate passed a bill which requires cities to adopt and publish, as
appropriate, a policy that prohibits discrimination on the basis of gender in the operation and administration
of athletic programs. This legislation is applicable to recreational programming as well as athletic field and
facility rentals. Although this policy is not a change in operations for the Parks and Recreation Department,
policy language will now be incorporated into rental information packets and contracts. Additionally, the
next Recreational Brochure will also state this policy. INFORMATION ONLY.
C. Parks Proiect Undate
As information only, staff gave a brief PowerPoint presentation on the status of three ongoing Parks
projects: Tukwila Pond, Duwamish Riverbend Hill and Codiga Park. In regards to Tukwila Pond, both
Committee Members and staff commented on the large amount of volunteers that have consistently
provided assistance with renewal efforts. Staff reported that the Codiga Park project is almost complete,
and will return to Committee soon for project closeout and acceptance. Finally, a portion of the Duwamish
Riverbend Hill project is currently out to bid. Staff showed pictures of improvements to the Hill including
graded steps and an outdoor classroom. INFORMATION ONLY.
