HomeMy WebLinkAbout1912-06-11 Regular Minutes 1'iashington, June 11th, ,1912 Tuki ila, The regular raonthly meeting of the Council of Tukwila was held in Lutz Hall on the above date, meeting being called to order by the Mayor at the Dour of 9 :15 P.M. o'clock. There were present: Jacob Guntert, mayor. E F Doty Eugene Lutz, D.F.Williams, Eugene Sandahl and 0.7P. Santhuff, Councilmen. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Reports of Committee Finance, No Report. Streets Alleys. Mr. Doty, Chairman, reported that Riverside Avenue is being unproved very satisfactorily, and that there remained $120.00 of the amount appropriated for this improvement. Report accepted. LANVS ORDI1vAtiCES. No Report, Ways Means. Yo Report. Town Property. Yo Report, but dr. Doty suggested that the t:vo Yffieel Scrapers recently purchased by the Town should be housed when not in use; referred to the idarsha,l Bills. The following bills were read, approved, and War- rants ordered drawn in their payments, excepting the bill of the State Audi�.or, which was laid otter until the next meeting, the cleric being instructed to ascertain the manner of paying the same: S.M.Charnlbers, 8.50;. J.E.Dyson, 24.00; Charles Christaden, 9.00; Joe Cathcart, 7.20; H.Weiderman, 11.00; J.Johnson, 2.40; F.MacDonald, 9.60; A.D. Cathcart, 24.00; R.Lambert, 24.00; Chas. iaanster, 48.00; J.Gr een, 24.00; H.Weiderman, 5.OQ; J. A. Smith, 4.80; Mrs. Caroline Lutz, 2.00; E.F.Greene, 5.00, a Total of $208.50. 3ommunica.tions. Conaunications were read from the Washington Rat- ing Bureau, The State Auditor and Mrs. Coates and ordered Placed on file The tYashington Rating Bureau also forwarded pro po forms of Ordinances regarding the use o.f Fireworks and the disposition of Garbage and Rub- bish; these were ordered laid on the table. A discussion took:place regarding the nuisances of Caterpillars ,nd Noxious "Veeds. It was decided that a State Law already exists in egard to the Caterpil:,ar nuisance, but that it is too late to take ction this season, Regarding Noxious Weeds, there is also a State Law, nd the Clerk was ordered to prepare Notices in accordance therwith or posting throughout the Town. The matter o.L.stocic running at large in the streets of the Town Rme up and a gene--al discussion followed, resulting in a motion being ade and carried that Ordinance No. 24 relating; to stock running at Letters from P.S.E.Ra,ilway, American Surety Company,Wiltsie Fiegensen, Civil Engineers, were read and ordered placed on file. A letter was read from Annie E. Roberts, complaining of Mr. John Hopkins and alleging that he taken certain plank; ordred placed on the table. A letter was read addressed to the Mayor and Council by Mrs. S.E.0'Byrne, in which she complains of damages which she alleges she has sustained at the hands of certain "small boys" of the Town. This matter was referred direct to the Town Marshall, with instructions to take such action as he shall deem necessary. A statement was read, coming from the County Treasurer's Office, in which that office reports x¢312.42 turned over to the Treasurer of Tukwila for the month of March, and 52.95 for the month of April, 1912, NEW BUSINESS: The subject of stock running at large was brought up and discussed at length. Fumerous instances were cited where persons had been damaged by cattle running at large It was proposed that an Ordinance be drawn to be passed upon at the next meeting, but upon motion made and seconded it was decided that the Committee on Laws and Ordinances look up the merits of the Ordinance already existing covering this matter, and report at the next meeting, it being the sense of the meet- ing that cattle owners be given three weeks' time in which to make arrangements for the care of their stock, and the Mayor declaring that an emergency exists, and asking for proinpt action. r. Sandahl asks for an appropriation of $30.00 to improve the road at or near his place. ilr. Weidermann expressed an opinion that with an expenditure of $50.00 the could be put in first class condition; accordingly a motion was made and carried that a sum not to exceed $''50.00 be spent in the improvement of this piece of road. Complaint was made by Mr. Collenius that certain residents of the Town were being discriminated against in the matter of Town Employment; after some discussion the matter was referred to Ids. Weidermann, with the recommendation that he hire whomsoever he saw fit, without regard to their political or other affiliations, considering only the matter of efficiency and their ability to do a dayst work.
