HomeMy WebLinkAbout1912-03-12 Regular MinutesTukwila Washington March 12, 1912 The Regular Meeting was held at Lutz Hall on the above date. Meeting was called to order by the Mayor at the hour of 8:55 PM. Present: Jacob Gunthert Mayor E.E. Lutz D.A. Williams E.F. Doty Councilmembers The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved after a small correction. Report of Committees Mr. Doty reported stumps had been blown on Riverside Avenue and sidewalks and gutters had been cleaned. Mr. Lutz reported he had written to Mr. Garman in regards to the broken plow beams asking him to get his bill OK by and present to next Council Meeting, but as he had not done so no action was taken in the matter. Correspondence and Bills The following Bills were presented for payment: J.A. Smith $2.40 Stangley $18.70 Frank Mcdonald $3.00 $2.42 Greene $2.00 Total $61.60 Bills were audited by Auditing Committee and it was moved and carried that warrants be drawn and bills be heard A communication from the County Commissioners stating they had no record of any permit issued to E.M. Steine giving him to occupy a public street in Tukwila. And also stating that the Town Council has full control of streets and alleys. And it is the duty of the Council to remove all trespassers there from. A letter from Greene & Greene enclsoing blanks for the bonds and also a letter stating that the bonds had been raised since he E.F. Greene had secured any bonds of like matter which were $17.00 or $18.00 and now are $25.00 for the three Officials. Statement of taxes collected moved and carried communication be accepted and placed on file. Unfinished Business Mayor Gunthert reported that the trouble were the broken window in Chainfers store had been settled to the satisfaction of both parties. He also stated he had received a card from P.O. Officials stating that the PSE had received letter. Mr. Doty reported he had seen Mr. Heine and he was willing to give half of the street for a dock if the City wanted to build one. Mr. Heine spoke on the dock proposition and said he was willing to let any one use his dock. But he objected to anyone lying their boats to a certain which he had for his private use. New Business There was a discussion as to what the Marshall's wages were to be but it was voted they stand as ordinance called for $5.00 per month. Moved and carried that an additional $10.00 be appropriated for bonds. The question of cleaning up the streets was brought up and it was voted that Street Foreman clear up all streets. Mr. Williams put the question of light up to the Council as he was asked to by the Light Company. They agree to place lights on any poles 20 feet long for $15.00 per light on trial for 30 days free. Mr. Lutz spoke favorable on lights. Motion made and carried that light question be layed over until there is more money on hand. Mr. ghist spoke in regards to light and invited the Council to see the lights he has before they get lights for the streets. Councilmember Lutz brought up the question of heiring law attorney and recommended a friend of his EH Palmer who he said was willing to fill the office at a small fee. Mr. Kingsley spoke against having an attorney and pointed out the difference the old council had been before and also citing the fact that the Town had been without an attorney. Mayor Gunthert suggested new Council Motion made and seconded we hire Mr. Palmer and pay him $50.00 a year payable monthly. Providing he enforce the speed ordinance. Carried. Mr. dollar asked the Council to have the ditches along the Puget Sound Electric drained. The question was thoroughly discussed and it was voted that the Street Committee take up the matter and report at next Regular Meeting. As there was no more business of importance to come before the Council an adjournment was taken at 10:45 PM. H.E. Ives Clerk
