HomeMy WebLinkAbout1911-11-14 Regular MinutesTukwila, Washington November 14, 1911 Regular Meeting held at Lutz Hall on above date. Meeting called to order at the hour of 8:00 PM. Present: E.W. Engel Mayor John O. Wold Eugene Sandahl E. Doty Jacob Gunthert Councilmember The minutes of the previous meeting was read and approved by the Council. Report of Committees Mr. gunthert reported on the progress of the south end Outlet. He had seen and talked with Mr. and about it but could not see Mr. McIntyre as he was out of Town, so nothing different could be reported. Bills and Correspondence The following Bills were up for payment: Fred Nelson $5.00 J. viele $7.00 J.W. Perce $2.10 John Terry $5.20 Wiederman $21.00 O. Olson $1.00 Lomman and Hareford $2.25 C.P. Jensen $6.00 B.H. Kassner $1.00 Caroline Lutz $4.00 Greenes and Callernus $5.00 S. Myers $4.40 J. Johnson $9.00 Total $76.05 After examining and approving the Bills they were orderd paid by the Council. A Bill from R.H. Kassner was laid over until next meeting for correction. Some correspondence of less importance was read and ordered placed on file. A certificate of nomination of through Councilmembers and Treasurer of the Socialist Party was handed and placed on record. The Mayor read a Law provision regarding Election of Councilmembers who filled unexpired terms if they were in Office until resigned candidates term fully expired or only until regular election. It was decided to get get clear information on the matter from Assistant Corporation council. Mr. Sandahl reported later that such Councilmember were only holding office until regular election then to the vote upon until expiration of resigned candidates terms expires. The Mayor appointed Mr. Wold, Mr. Doty and Mr. Sandahl as Election Committee. Suggested a lady for Judge. The question of disposing of planks in the right place is before the Council also the manner of laying them in the best way. A somewhat lively discussion followed. It was finally moved that Street Committee be empowered to lay walk over low places in Maule Avenue and if anybody wanted any private walk would ahve to pay for them themselves. Carried. The Marshall surprised about a stray horse we had in Town. It had been advertised but no owner had called for it. As there was no provision made in stock ordinance to that effect, the Ordinance Committee was instructed ordinance Mr. Wold asked about our ordinance on a strip of land on Clarence Avenue vacated by and getting for same. The Mayor stated that he had been informed by Surveyors that it was better not to do anything in the matter at present. A motion that Mr. Wiederman be instructed to purchase 300 feet of 2x4 for railing on Tukwila Avenue was duly carried. Mr. Doty petitioned for about 200 feet of plank for walk on Clarence Avenue between Main Street and riverside Avenue. A motion to come, petition was duly carried. Street Committee to see that the walk be laid Mr. Wold asked about getting away with a big stump in south end of Reitz Avenue. The Street Foreman was instructed tog et it away by means he best saw fit for it. He was also instructed to do some repair work on Tukwila Avenue in new grade. The Light question was brought up for discussion. Mr. Gunthert spoke about the matter. He was answered in favor of light as anybody, but coming to lack of funds he suggested that it be dropped again this winter. Mr. Wold asked about getting person to fill Office of Justice of the peace and Police Judges. It was agreed that it was no easy matter to get anybody to fill the job for appointments were made. As there were no other Business of any importance to come before the Council an adjounrment was taken at about 10:00 PM. C.P. Jensen Clerk
