I I I I 1 1 I ITEM INFORMATION Original Agenda Date: February 10, 2003 Extension of Medical Benefits for Dependents of Employees Called to Active Duty 03 -o14 Council X Admin Existing Resolution 1475 provided for an extension of medical benefits to employees' dependents when the employee was called to active military duty in support of "9 -11 The proposed Resolution will extend those benefits to dependents when employees are called to active duty in response to any declared national emergency. APPENDICES Attachments Memo from Administration, Draft Resolution, Resolution 1475 Proposed Resolution Final Format A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, PROVIDING EXTENDED MEDICAL, DENTAL AND VISION COVERAGE FOR EMPLOYEES' DEPENDENTS AS A RESULT OF CITY EMPLOYEES BEING CALLED FOR ACTIVE DUTY IN THE UNITED STATES MILITARY. WHEREAS, the City of Tukwila is supportive of all United States military personnel who are called to active duty in support of the defense of our nation; and WHEREAS, it is understood that certain sacrifices are made by those employees who are called to active duty; and WHEREAS, the City of Tukwila wishes to help ease the burden for those employees in the area of medical, dental and vision coverage for their dependents; NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The City of Tukwila will hereby provide extended medical, dental and vision coverage for an employee's dependents while that employee is serving on active duty as a result of being "called up for service," for a period not to exceed one year from the date the employee is called to active duty. Section 2. The medical, dental and vision benefits shall be at the level and under the terms provided for dependent medical as if the employee were not on active military duty.
