HomeMy WebLinkAbout1916-07-11 Adjourned MinutesTukwila Town Hall July 11, 1916 The 9th Council of the Town of Tukwila met in regular session in Lutz Hall on July 11, 1916. Meeting was called to order by Mayor Stevens at 8:30 PM. Roll call showed the following officers present: Kassner Erickson Klein Hemmick Myers. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. No report from the Standing Committees were received with the exception of the Street Committee. Councilmember Kassner reproted finishing the grading on Warren Avenue in front of the School house report was accepted. On motion of Councilmember Kassner, the Clerk was requested to call upon Mr. Blankenship in regards to the Deed and agreement pertaining to the opening up of Main Street at the river. A communication from the State Bureau of Inspection in answer to the one sent them by Mayor Stevens protesting against the excessive charge made by E.E. Lemnant of the Bureau in inspecting the books of the City was read by the Clerk and ordered placed on file. On motion of Councilmember Kassner seconded by Councilmember Myers, the Clerk was instructed to secure a typewritten copy of all registered voters, and forward same to Secretary of State at Olympia. Treasurer's report was received and placed on file. On motion of Councilmember Kassner seconded by Councilmember Klein the resignation of Light Superintendent J.L. Durbin was accepted. The resignation to take effect on June 15, 1916. report of the Light Inspector was read and ordered placed on file. On motion passed. Chairman Erickson was authorized to sell the time clock and globes, etc. of the old lightning system. On motion of Councilmember Klein seconded by Councilmember Myers, the clerk was authorized to draw a warrant in the sum of $10.00 in favor of the Bancroft Whitney Company in payment for two copies of the revised edition of the 1915 remington Code. A resolution authorizing the construction of a sidewalk along the north and west line of Main Street extending from the new Pacific Highway to Highland Drive this improvement to be assessed to the abutting property owners was read by the Clerk. On motion of Councilmember Myers seconded by Councilmember Erickson. A roll call on the resolution was ordered with the following result: Kassner yes Klein yes Myers yes Hemmick yes Erickson yes The Mayor declared the resolutions passed by a unanimous vote. On motion of Councilmember Kassner seconded by Councilmember Erickson, the proposition to build a catch basin at the foot of Main Street was authorized and the clerk was instructed to write the manufacturers of corrugated iron pipe in regards to the cost of the same. On motion of Councilmember Klein seconded by Councilmember Hemmick the City Attorney was authorized to draft necessary notices of the actions of the Council in the work of building the Main Street sidewalk and to mail the same to all abutting property owners. Motion was carried by a unanimous vote. Resolution 4 On motion of Councilmember Klein seconded by Councilmember Myers, Chairman Kassner of the Street Committee was instructed to investigate the advisability of opening up Clarence Avenue from the new Pacific Highway to Warren Avenue by the construction of a sidewalk. Motion was carried. A motion made by Councilmember Hemmick and seconded by Myers that the owner of the property located on the northwest corner of Main Street and Tukwila Avenue be notified to repair the fence along the edge of the property. Motion carried. No further business to come before the body. The meeting was adjourned to meet in regular session on August 8, 1916. Joseph Hozack Clerk
