HomeMy WebLinkAbout1916-09-13 Regular MinutesiTukwila Washington September 13, 1916 The 9th Council of the Town of Tukwila met in regular session in Lutz Hall on September 13th. Mayor Stevens called the meeting to order. On roll call the following officers answered to their names: Councilmembers Kassner Klein Hemmick Myers Erickson. Minutes of the last regular meeting read and approved as were the minutes of the Special Meeting and the adjourned meeting approved. Standing Committees reported as follows: Chairman Kassner of the Street Committee made a report on the Blankenship matter report laid on the table to be taken up later. chairman Erickson of the Light Committee reported no sale of Clock. $0.80 was received for the sale of old light globes and the money turned over to Treasurer C.P. Jensen. No reports from other committees. A motion by Councilmember Klein seconded by Councilmember Erickson was carried to the effect that the Clerk be instructed to l i i i j r WIN I I s- write all property owners on the west side of Main Street, between Highland Drive and Tukwila Avenue in regards to a new sidewalk in front of their proeprty with an attached agreement signifying their willingness of having the work performed by the Town. Mayor Stevens reported that he had interviewed several City of Seattle officials with a view of securing locations of one of the proposed new reservoirs which the City intends to build for water. He reported the prospects were not favorable on account of low elevations. Treasurer report read and ordered placed on file. town Clerk reported having received the signed deed from Mr. Steigler giving the Town land for a road extending from Division Street to Bluff Street through his property. A motion by Councilmember Klein seconded by Councilmember Erickson was carried instructing the Chairman of the Street Committee to check up the description of the property as contained in Mr. Steigler's deed. At the next regular meeting, the Clerk reported that he had had inserted in the Seattle Star in two issues a notice of the estimated 1917 budget together with a notice of the meeting as prescribed by law a copy of the notice as published in inserted below. LEGAL NOTICES Notice to Taxpayers A communication from James Wold in answer to a letter sent him by the Clerk in regards to opening up a street at the end of Lummitt Avenue was read and ordered placed on file. An ordinance providing for the filling of Main Street from the Interurban tracks to the Duwamish River and which was introduced at the Special Meeting on September 6th was then read for the second time. On motion of Councilmember Myers, seconded by Councilmember Klein the ordinance was ordered placed on its final passage and a vote by roll call ordered: Councilmembers Kassner no Klein yes Myers yes Hemmick no Erickson yes. Ordinance declared passed by the Mayor. Ordinance 61 A motion was made to Councilmember Myers seconded by Councilmember Klein that the blankenship bid for the filling of Main Street be accepted and that the Clerk be instructed to draw up an agreement in accordnance with the contract and that the Mayor and Clerk be authorized to sign the same for the City. On roll call the motion was passed by the following vote: Kassner yes Klein yes Myers yes Hemmick yes Erickson yes. Bids for the new Main Street sidewalk were then ordered opened. The McDonald bid of $297.95 was the lowest received it was referred to the Chairman of the Street Committee and to be acted upon at the next regular meeting. A communication from Peterson was received and ordered placed on file. A communication from McGoodfellow in regards to the loss of a City warrant was given to the Chairman of the Street Committee for investigation. The following bills which were OK'd by the Finance Committee were ordered paid and the Clerk authorized to draw warrants for same Light $21.25 Hozack clerk's salary $5.00 Hans Weiderman $13.15 The Mayor presented 5 official maps of the Town which he ahd secured from the Kroll Map Company. The Clerk was authorized to purchase and the same for the sum of $1.25. A motion by Myers seconded by Councilmember Erickson was carried to the effect that the City Attorney send a communication to all abutting property owners on Clarence Avenue and Rainier Avenue who are known to be willfully encroaching upon these thoroughfares and to request them to sign waivers disclaiming any right to any portions of these streets as designated on the official map of the Town. A motion of councilmember Erickson seconded by Councilmember Myers was passed authorizing the Chairman of the Street Committee to repair the walk on Maule Avenue south of Second Avenue.
