The 9th Council of the Town of
Tukwila met in an adjourned session from
the regular meeting held on April 11, 1916.
All members of the Council being present
Mayor Stevens requested Mr. Lutz who acted as
Clerk of the Special Election called for the
purpose of securing a expression from the
people in regards ot the Puget Sound Electric Light franchise
then pending before the Council and councilmember
Klein to act as tellers in counting the ballot
the result showed 55 votes in favor of the
Council passing the ordinance and 11 against
the proposition. The total number of votes cast being 66.
The following amendments
to the ordinance were introduced by
Councilmember Kassner that this franchise
was not to be considered exclusive also
that the Electric Company be required to move
their poles at their own expense at any time
where a sidewalk was to be widened also
the rate for said light to be no more than
Kent or Auburn. The amendments were adopted by
the following votes Councilmembers Kassner Klein
Hemmick Erickson the Clerk then read the
amended ordinance. On roll call the
ordiannce was passed by the following
unanimous vote councilmember Kassner Klein
Hemmick Erickson. Motion by Kassner to grant
the PSE Light Company a franchise for light in
the Town of Tukwila with the amendment
added to it. On roll call of councilmember
showed the following vote Kassner yes
Klein yes Hemmick yes Erickson yes
Ordinance 59
motion by Kassner that the Council extend
a vote of thanks to Mrs. Lutz for her faithful
services at the Special Election.
Mayor Stevens
spoke on having a conference with the Chief
Engineer of the Puget Sound Electric in regards to the
right-of-way across Main Street. He read a
communication from Mr. Bean in which the
writer spoke favorable in regards to the
proposition. Motion by Councilmember Kassner
that the communication received from
Mr. Bean be placed on file. Clerk was called
upon to read the judgment signed by King
Dykeman Superior court Judge. Motion by
Klein that the Clerk be instructed to notify
the respondents to the suit that the street
Warren Avenue South and Hazel Avenue will be
open for traffic on April 22, 1916. Motion
carried unanimously. councilmember Klein in
a short address spoke of the untiring efforts
of the Mayor in pushing the work of
securing the opening of Warren Avenue South
and Hazel Avenue and believed that the citizens
of Tukwila owed the Mayor a vote of
thanks for his efforts. Motion by Klein
that Mr. Erickson be appointed a
committee of one to look into the matter
of opening up the street on the east side
of the Towna nd report at the next regular
meeting. Motion carried.
Motion by Klein that a reward of $25.00 be offered for the
arrest and conviction of anyone found
guilty of willfully destroying or moving
any stakes or monuments erected by the
City to designate street or sidewalk lines.
On roll call of Councilmember motion carried
unanimously.
Motion by Kassner that the
Chairman of the Street Committee be
authorized to spend an amount less
than $100.00 on the improvement of Warren Avenue South and
Hazel Avenue. Motion carried.
Motion by Erickson that a sum of "not over" $25.00
be allowed for the improvement
of outlet and the amount to be taken
from the money now in the road and
bridge fund now in the city. Motion carried.
A resolution to be presented by the Clerk at
the next regular meeting empowering the
Chairman of the Health Committee to buy
the carcasses of any dead animals. Mayor
Stevens appointed Hamlin Myers as
Marshall and Poundmaster to succeed the
present Marshall D. Stauffer resigned.
Appointment confirmed . There being no
further business the meeting adjourned.
