ANTENNA BEFORE IT IS INSTALLED. THE ANTENNA IS TESTED IN THE RETURN
LOSS MODE. PERFORM THE MEASUREMENT OUTDOORS AND POINT THE
ANTENNA AT THE SKY FOR THE RETURN LOSS MEASUREMENT. THIS WILL
ENSURE THAT NO RF REFLECTION FROM A NEARBY OBJECT IS CAUSING A
FALSELY INFLATED RETURN LOSS.
NOTE: THE MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE PASS LEVEL IS -14 dB FOR ALL BAND AND
MANUFACTURERS.
2. CABLE SYSTEM DISTANCE TO FAULT - LOAD - COMPONENT BYPASS:
THIS TEST IS A PERFORMANCE VERIFICATION AND FAILURE ANALYSIS TOOL
FOR THE TRANSMISSION LINES AND CONNECTORS. BYPASS ANY DIPLEXERS,
SURGE ARRESTORS OR MHA'S IN LINE, AND SWEEP FROM THE TOP OF THE
CABINET IF BOTTOM JUMPERS ARE INSTALLED, OTHERWISE SWEEP FROM THE
BOTTOM OF THE MAIN COAX LINE.

TEST VERIFIES THE CABLE SYSTEM QUALITY. THE TEST IS PERFORMED USING
A PRECISION, CALIBRATED 50 LOAD IN LIEU OF THE ANTENNA.
THE TEST LINE CONSITS OF THE EQUIPMENT JUMPERS, SURGE ARRESTOR,
MAIN FEED LINE, AND TOP JUMPERS.
NOTE: THE MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE PASS LEVEL IS -20 dB FOR BOTH 1900 MHz
AND 850 MHz BAND.

JUMPERS BETWEEN THE CABINET AND ANTENNA. USE TABLES 3 AND 4 FOR
INSERTION LOSS VALUES FOR DIPLEXER'S AND MHA'S.

1. PRESS MODE, SELECT RL, SELECT RL AID, ENTER TEST FREQ,
DISTANCE AND CABLE SIZE.
2. STARTING WITH TX/RX 1. USE THE DIN (F) TO DIN (F) CONNECTOR TO
BYPASS THE TMA.
3. CONNECT A SHORT AT THE END OF THE ANTENNA ,JUMPER.
4. PERFORM INSERTION LOST MEASUREMENT.
5. MARK MAX RL (PEAK) WITH M1 AND MIN RL (VALLEY) WITH M2. ADD M1
TO M2 THEN DIVIDE BY 4. M1 +M2/4 =1L AVERAGE SHOULD BE LESS THAN
1 dB BELOW THE LOSS FOR THE NEXT HIGHEST CABLE LENGTH.
6. LABEL SWEEP AS SITE ID LABEL TYPE OF SWEEP
THEN SAVE SWEEP.
7. REPEAT INSERTION LOSS TEST FOR THE REMAINING TRANSMISSION
LINES.
5. TRANSMISSON LINE CONTINUITY TEST:
THIS TEST WILL VERIFY THE CONTINUITY OF THE RX PATH BETWEEN THE BTS
AND THE TMA FOR THE DC NETWORK.
1. CONTINUITY TEST SHOULD BE PERFORMED RIGHT AFTER THE
INSERTION LOSS TEST WHILE THE SHORT IS STILL CONNECTED. IF
NOT; CONNECT A SHORT ON THE END OF THE TMA JUMPER.
2. CONNECT THE METER TO THE LAST CONNECTOR BEFORE THE BIAS T;
RED LEAD TO CENTER PIN BLACK LEAD TO CONNECTOR BODY.
3. VERIFY METER READS A SHORT.
4. REMOVE SHORT AND VERIFY METER READS OPEN.
5. IF STEPS 3 AND 4 FAIL CLEAN THE GLUE OFF THE CENTER CONDUCTOR
ON THE JUMPERS.
6. REPEAT STEPS 1 THROUGH 6 FOR THE REMAINING RECEIVE PATHS. (NO
MEASUREMENTS NEED TO BE RECORDED IN THE SITE REPORT)
6. CABLE LENGTH - ANTENNA - COMPONENT BYPASS:
THIS DISTANCE TO FAULT SHORT TEST IS USED TO DETERMINE THE LENGTH
OF THE CABLE SYSTEM WITH THE ANTENNA AS PART OF THE SYSTEM.

1. TX/RX TESTING
THE TX/RX PATH TESTING IS A TEST PERFORMED TO MEASURE THE
OPERATION OF THE DUPLEXOR - THE ISOLATION BETWEEN TRANSMITS
AND RECEIVES PATHS - AND THE OPERATION OF THE LOW NOISE
AMPLIFIER (LNA). THE TEST METHOD CONSITS OF CONNECTING THE
ANTENNA CABLE SYSTEM TO THE TEST EQUIPMENT SUCH THAT A LOOP
TYPE TEST (SEE SECTION 3) CAN BE PERFORMED THROUGH THE LNA. A
BIAS T AND POWER SUPPLY ALLOW THE LNA TO BE POWERED ON AND
OFF. ONE DATA RECORDING IS DONE WHEN THE LNA DC POWER IS
TURNED OFF; A SECOND DATA RECORDING IS DONE WHEN THE LNA DC
POWER IS TURNED ON TO 15V.
NOTE: THE MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE VALUE IS IF THE GAIN BETWEEN THE TWO
RECORDED DATA IS GREATER OR EQUAL TO 11 dB FOR A GAIN TMA OR IS
GREATER OR EQUAL TO 32 dB FOR A 33 dB TMA.
DUPLEX LNA TESTING:
DUPLEX LNA TX/RX TRANSMISSION TESTING WILL TEST THE OPERATION OF
THE DUPLEXER - THE ISOLATION BETWEEN TRANSMIT AND RECEIVE PATHS -
AND THE OPERATION OF THE LOW NOISE AMPLIFIER (LNA). THIS TEST DOES
NOT GIVE ACCURATE QUANTITATIVE DATA ON THE LNA GAIN. IT IS BASICALLY
A FUNCTIONALITY TEST TO ESTABLISH THAT THE LNA POWERS UP WITH GAIN
APPROXIMATELY TO SPEC.
1. CONNECT TX CABLE INTOTHE RF OUT PORT OT THE NETWORK
ANALYZER.
2. CONNECT TX/RX OR RX CABLE INTO THE RF IN PORT OF THE NETWORK
ANALYZER THROUGH THE BIAS TEE.
3. THE POWER SUPPLY CONNECTED TO THE BIAS TEE SHOULD BE OFF.
4. INJECT RF SIGNAL INTO THE RF OUT PORT.
5. MEASURE AND RECORD THE RETURN LOSS WHILE THE DC POWER INTO
THE BIAS TEE IS OFF.
6. LEAVE THE HARDWARE SET UP THE SAME.
7. MEASURE AND RECORD THE RETURN LOSS WHILE THE DC POWER INTO
THE BIAS TEE IS ON AND SET TO +15 VOLTS.
8. COMPARE THE GAIN BETWEEN THE TWO RECORDING DATA. IF THE GAIN
IS GREATER OR EQUAL TO 11 dB FOR AN 11 dB TMA AND 32 dB FOR A
33 dB TMA, THEN THE SYSTEM IS CONSIDERED AS PASS.

THE FOLLOWING EIGHT (8) PLOTS OF SWEEPS AND ONE SITE SURVEY FORM
SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE TURNOVER PACKAGE FOR EVERY ANTENNA
