The maximum riser height shall be 7 -3/4 inches, measured vertically between leading edges of the adjacent R311.5.3.1 treads. The greatest riser height with any flight of stairs shall not exceed the smallest by more than 3/8 inches. (DCD H011) Stair treads. The maximum tread depth shall be 10 inches measured horizontally between the vertical planes of the foremost R311.5.3.2 projection of adjacent treads and at aright angle to the tread's leading edge.. (DCD H0111 Profile. The radius of curvature at the leading edge of the tread shall be no greater than 9/16 inch. A nosing not less than 3/4 R311.5.3.3 inch but not more than 1 -1/4 inch shall be provided on stairways with solid risers. The greatest nosing projection shall not exceed the smallest nosing projection by more than 3/8 inch between two stories, including the nosing at the level of the floors and landings. Beveling of nosing shall not exceed 1/2 inch. Risers shall be vertical or sloped from the underside of the leading edge of the tread above at an angle not more than 30 degrees from the vertical. For the purpose of this section, rooms or spaces that are not part of the living space of a dwelling unit and that communicate directly with a private garage through openings shall be considered to be part of the private garage. CLOTHES DRYER EXHAUST Duct penetrations; Ducts that exhaust clothes dryers shall not penetrate or be located with in any fire blocking, draftstopping IRC G2439.2 (614,12) or any wall, floor /ceiling or other assembly required by this code to be fire- resistance rated, unless such duct is constructed of galvanized steel or aluminum of the thickness specified in the mechanical provisions of this code and the fire- resistance rating is maintained in accordance with this code. Exhaust installation. Dryer exhaust ducts for clothes dryers shall terminate on the outside of the building and shall be IRC G2439.3 (614.4) equipped with a backdraft damper. Openings from private garage directly into a room used for sleeping purposes shall not be permitted. Other openings between the garage and residence shall be equipped with solid wood doors not less than 1 -3/8 inches in thickness, solid or honeycomb core steel doors not less that 1 -3/8 inches thick, or 20- minute fire -rated doors. R309.1 Duct penetration. Ducts in the garage and ducts penetrating the walls or ceilings separating the dwelling from the garage shall be constructed with a minimum No. 26 gage sheet steel or other approved material and shall have no openings into the garage. Garage floor surfaces shall be of approved noncombustible material. The area of floor used for parking of automobiles or other vehicles shall be sloped to facilitate the movement of liquids to a drain or toward the main vehicle entry doorway. R309.3 Carports. Carports shall be open on at least two sides. Carport floor surfaces shall be of approved noncombustible material, Carports not open on at least two sides shall be considered a garage and shall comply with the provisions of this sections for garages. Exception: Asphalt surfaces shall be permitted at ground level in carports and sloped to facilitate the movement of liquids to a drain or toward the main vehicle entry doorway. R309.4 LIGHT, VENTILATION AND HEATING (Section R303) Habitable rooms. All habitable rooms shall be provided with aggregate glazing area of not less than 8 percent of the floor area of such rooms. Natural ventilation shall be through windows, doors, louvers or other approved openings to the outdoor air. Openings shall be provided with ready access or shall other wise be readily controllable by the building occupants and minimum open able areas to the outdoors shall be 4 percent of the floor area being ventilated.
