Approval is hereby given for the design of this system. Discharge of treated wastewater from this separator to the sanitary sewer is authorized subject to the following conditions: 1. No significant amount of storm drainage shall enter the sanitary sewer, i.e., the uncovered area tributary to the separator shall not exceed 200 square feet. 2. The connection to the sanitary sewer shall meet plumbing, construction, or other building codes established by the local jurisdictions. 3. The oil/water separator sampling port or inspection tee on the outlet line shall be accessible to King County personnel during normal hours of facility operation. 4. The oil/water separator shall be properly maintained so that effluent from these structures does not exceed the King County discharge limitation of 100 milligrams per liter (mg/1) of mineral/petroleum (nonpolar) fats, oils, and grease (FOG) or 100 mg/1 of animal vegetable (polar) FOG This design approval does not in any way guarantee the effective operation of the system. Enterprise Rent A Car, or any subsequent operator, retains responsibility to enlarge, modify, or replace the oil/water separator to meet King County discharge requirements. Any subsequent modifications to your collection and pretreatment facilities, which have the potential of affecting your wastewater discharge, must be reviewed and approved by King County prior to construction or initiation. Nothing in this approval shall be construed as satisfying other applicable federal, state, or local codes, ordinances, regulations, or statues. Z H W' JU UO U 0 _ U) L w O U. Based on the above, you are hereby advised to: Call the City of Tukwila Permit Center at 206 - 431 -3670 to arrange for the next final inspection. This inspection is intended to determine if substantial work has been accomplished since issuance of the permit or last inspection; or if the project should be considered abandoned. If such determination is made, the Building Code does allow the Building Official to approve a one -time extension up to 180 days. Extension requests must be in writing and Provide satisfactory reasons why circumstances beyond the applicants control have prevented action from being taken. Z W` u D UO N 0 CO) W uW = Cf) W W O. The permit applicant should have the Engineer of Record respond and resubmit two copies of revised structural drawings and one copy of supplemental calculations. All information should be submitted directly to Reid Middleton, Inc. 2. The references to ASTM A 446 in the Structural Steel section of the Structural .Notes on Sheet 1 should be changed to ASTM A 653. ASTM A 446 was withdrawn in 1994 and replaced by ASTM A 653. The reference to AWS D1 -84 in the Structural Steel section of the Structural Notes on Sheet 1 should be changed to AWS D1.1 -96, which was current at the time of the adoption of the 1997 UBC in Washington State. Foundations 4. An allowable vertical soil bearing value of 1,500 psf is specified on Sheet 1, which is apparently derived from UBC Table 18 -1 -A. However, this value is increased in the calculations due to embedment of the footing below grade. UBC Table 18 -1 -A should be specified on Sheet 1 as the source of the assumed soil bearing value so that this assumed increase will be documented. The allowable vertical soil bearing value should be changed from 1,500 to 2,400 psf with a reference to Footnote 2 of Table 18 -1 -A. 5. The steel columns have been assumed as fixed in the calculations. The calculations do not appear to address the combination of axial and flexural loads at the steel base plates and anchor bolts. Substantiating data should be submitted to verify structural capacity. Note that the maximum bending moment at the base of the columns is 9.24 kip -feet per page 11 of the calculations. Vertical 6. A superimposed dead load is apparently not assumed for the design of the roof. The design dead load is 3 psf per page 1 of the calculations. This dead load should be documented on Sheet 1 to guard against overloading of the structure. 7. - A detail should be added to the drawings for review that provides a design for a steel base plate between the columns and the footings. See UBC Section 1915.8 for transfer of force at the base of the columns. The structure is apparently designed as an unenclosed (open) structure. See UBC Section 1616. Consequently, the structure has not been designed for the installation of exterior wall materials. This design restriction should be documented on Sheet 1. The method of connection (type of connector, material properties, and spacing) for the metal roofing to the purlins should be specified on the drawings for Reid Middleton i z w . 6 D JU UO U CO) =. These connectors will need to support substantial uplift forces. See page 24 of the calculations. 10. The calculations do not appear to address the wind uplift forces on the roof gable ends. The capacity of the connectors between the metal roofing and the purlins may need to be substantially greater than elsewhere at the roof. Substantiating data should be submitted to verify structural capacity. Note that C = 2.8 for 10- square -foot tributary areas per Table 16 -H. 11. The calculations do not appear to address the requirements for column strength and slenderness in UBC Section 2213.5. Substantiating data should be submitted to verify structural capacity of the columns. Note that 0 = 2.0 for cantilevered column building systems per UBC Table 16 -N. 12. The calculations on page 22 for seismic forces on the columns do not include the mass contribution from the beams at the steel frames. This results in an increase in the seismic base shear of approximately 40 %. 13. The single plate stiffener at Detail C/2 is questionable. Substantiating data should be submitted to validate the use of a single stiffener. We recommend stiffeners on both sides. 14. The connection of the plate stiffeners to the roof beam and the splice plates (i.e., 3/16" fillet weld) should be specified at Detail D /2. 15. The calculations do not appear to address the requirements for beam -to- column connections for ordinary moment frames in UBC Section 2213.6. Substantiating data should be submitted to verify structural capacity of the beam -to- column connections. We recommend that they be designed for seismic forces amplified by E2 = 2.0. Note that a cantilevered column building system per UBC Table 16 -N was assumed, which typically assumes a fixed base and a column that is free to translate at the top. However, the beam -to- column connections were assumed to be restrained in the calculations (see page 8). The review comments listed above should be responded to in itemized letter form. We recommend the permit applicant have the Engineer of Record respond and resubmit two copies of the revised set of structural drawings and one copy of the supplemental calculations directly to our office.
