1: ** *BUILDING DEPARTMENT CONDITIONS * **
2: No changes will be made to the plans unless approved by the Engineer and the Tukwila Building Division.
3: All permits, inspection records, and approved plans shall be available at the job site prior to the start of any
construction. These documents are to be maintained and available until final inspection approval is granted.
4: All construction to be done in conformance with approved plans and requirements of the Uniform Building Code (1997
Edition) as amended, Uniform Mechanical Code (1997 Edition), and Washington State Energy Code (1997 Edition).
5: Validity of Permit. The issuance of a permit or approval of plans, specifications, and computations shall not be
construed to be a permit for, or an approval of, any violation of any of the provisions of the building code or of any
other ordinance of the jurisdiction. No permit presuming to give authority to violate or cancel the provisions of this
code shall be valid.
6: ** *FIRE DEPARTMENT CONDITIONS * **
7: The attached set of plans have been reviewed by The Fire Prevention Bureau and are acceptable with the following
concerns:
8: Maintain fire extinguisher coverage throughout.
9: Clear access to fire extinguishers is required at all times. They may not be hidden or obstructed. (NFPA 10, 1 -6.5)
10: Aisles leading to required exits shall be provided from all portions of buildings. Aisles located within an accessible
route of travel shall also comply with the Building Code requirements for accessibility. (UFC 1204.1)
11: The color and design of lettering, arrows and other symbols on exit signs shall be in high contrast with their
background. Words on the sign shall be block letters 6 inches in height with a stroke of not less than 3/4 inch. (UBC
1003.2.8.3)
12: Internally illuminated exit signs shall have both bulbs working at all times. (UBC 1003.2.8.4)
13: Maintian sprinkler coverage per N.F.P.A. 13. Addition /relocation of walls, closets or partitions may require relocating
and /or adding sprinkler heads.
14: Sprinkler protection shall be extended to all areas where required, including all enclosed areas, below obstructions
and under overhangs greater than four feet wide. (NFPA 13- 4- 5.5.3.1)
15: All new sprinkler systems and all modifications to existing sprinkler systems shall have fire department review and
approval of drawings prior to installation or modification. New sprinkler systems and all modifications to sprinkler
systems involving more than 50 heads shall have the written approval of the W.S.R.B., Factory Mutual, Industrial Risk
Insurers, Kemper or any other representative designated and /or recorgnized by the City of Tukwila, prior to submittal
to the Tukwila Fire Prevention Bureau. No sprinkler work shall commence without approved drawings. (City Ordinance

16: Contact the Tukwila Fire Prevention Bureau to witness all required inspections and tests. (UFC 10.503) (City Ordinance
#1900 and #1901)
17: All electrical work and equipment shall conform strictly to the standards of The National Electrical Code. (NFPA 70)
18: In double row racks with heights of storage up to and including 25', an average nominal 6" transverse flue space
between loads or at rack uprights shall be maintained. (NFPA 13)
19: Maintain minimum 6" longitudinal flue space between back to back racks. (NFPA 13)
20: Where storage height exceeds 15 feet and ceiling sprinklers only are installed, fire protection by one of the following
methods is required for steel building columns located within racks: (a) one -hour fire proofing, (b) sidewall
sprinklers at the 15 foot elevation of the column, (c) ceiling sprinkler density minimums as determined by the Tukwila
Fire Prevention Bureau. (NFPA 13)
21: Racks designed for high -piled storage must comply with section 2207 of the Uniform Building Code. Please contact the
Tukwila Building Department for details pertaining to design and installation standards.
22: Nominal 6" transverse flue spaces between loads and at rack uprights shall be maintained in single row, double row and
multiple row racks. Random variations in the width of flue spaces or in their vertical alignment shall be permitted.
(NFPA 231c 4 -34)
23: This review limited to speculative tenant space only - special fire permits may be necessary depending on detailed
description of intended use.
24: Any overlooked hazardous condition and /or violation of the adopted Fire or Building Codes does not imply approval of
such condition or violation.

Bill- Following is the revised engineering to included all of the small beams, any small
uprights, and higher beam locations. The engineering labels the small column uprights as
IU25 & the large uprights as IU75. These folks desperately need to load their racks. We
are impeding their business operations with each hour that we don't allow them to utilize
all or at least some of their racks. Please let me know if you don't plan to do a final

Bill- To address each of the 'comments'.
1) Replaced damaged upright.
2) 3.5" have been on the engineering (92" & 1081, I will get revised engineering to
include 96" beams (today).
3) Replaced damaged beam
4) The small upright is included in the revised engineering and is OK for this
installation (@ 3,000 lbs. capacity).
5) Replaced damaged beam.

7) Removed taped uprights (I'm not sure what this has to do with structural integrity
of the rack).
8) See #2
9) Revised engineering includes beams up to 190 ". Most have been lowered to 180 ".
10)Missing beams installed
11) Re- revised engineering will be faxed over this afternoon.

inspection so we can discuss all of these issues and make sure we can finish up this mess.
