1: ** *BUILDING DEPARTMENT CONDITIONS * **
2: No changes shall be made to the approved plans unless approved by the design professional in responsible charge and the
Building Official.
3: All permits, inspection records, and approved plans shall be at the job site and available to the inspectors prior to
start of any construction. These documents shall be maintained and made available until final inspection approval is
granted.
4: The special inspections and verifications for concrete construction shall be required.
5: When special inspection is required, either the owner or the registered design professional in responsible charge,
shall employ a special inspection agency and notify the Building Official of the appointment prior to the first
building inspection. The special inspector shall furnish inspection reports to the Building Official in a timely manner.
6: A final report documenting required special inspections and correction of any discrepancies noted in the inspections
shall be submitted to the Building Official. The final inspection report shall be prepared by the approved special
inspection agency and shall be submitted to the Building Official prior to and as a condition of final inspection
approval.
7: All construction shall be done in conformance with the approved plans and the requirements of the International
Building Code or International Residential Code, International Mechanical Code, Washington State Energy Code.
8: Notify the City of Tukwila Building Division prior to placing any concrete. This procedure is in addition to any
requirements for special inspection.
9: All wood to remain in placed concrete shall be treated wood.
10: All electrical work shall be inspected and approved under a separate permit issued by the Washington State Department
of Labor and Industries (206/248- 6630).
11: VALIDITY OF PERMIT: The issuance or granting of a permit shall not be construed to be a permit for, or an approval of,
any violation of any of the provisions of the building code or of any other ordinances of the City of Tukwila. Permits
presuming to give authority to violate or cancel the provisions of the code or other ordinances of the City of Tukwila
shall not be valid. The issuance of a permit based on construction documents and other data shall not prevent the
Building Official from requiring the correction of errors in the construction documents and other data.

TUKWILA STATION — PLATFORM ADDITION
Project Description /Existing Conditions:
In 1999, a temporary platform structure was built in Tukwila to service the
Sounder. The existing platform consists of wood framing with wood bracing
members. The current project scope is to add a section of platform and a shelter
to each of the east and west existing platforms.

B. Prepare design mixes, proportioned according to ACI 301, for normal weight concrete
determined by either laboratory trial mix or field test data bases, as follows:
1. Compressive Strength (28 Days): as indicated on the drawings.
2. Slump: 4 inches. Delete subparagraph below if superplasticizers are not
permitted.
a. Slump Limit for Concrete Containing High Range Water- Reducing
Admixture: Not more than 8 inches after adding admixture to plant- or site -
verified, 2- to 3 -inch slump.
C. Add air - entraining admixture at manufacturer's prescribed rate to result in concrete at
point of placement having an air content of 5.0 percent within a tolerance of plus 1.0 or
minus 1.5 percent.
1. Air content of trowel- finished interior concrete floors shall not exceed 3.0 percent.
D. Lightweight Structural Concrete Mix: ASTM C 330, proportioned to produce concrete
with a minimum compressive strength of 3,000 psi at 28 days and a calculated
equilibrium unit weight of 110 pounds /cubic foot, plus or minus 3 pounds /cubic foot, as
determined by ASTM C 567. Concrete slump at point of placement shall be the
minimum necessary for efficient mixing, placing, and finishing.
1. Limit slump to 5 inches for troweled slabs and 4 inches for other slabs.
2.3 CONCRETE MIXING
A. Ready -Mixed Concrete: Comply with ASTM C 94.
1. When air temperature is between 85 and 90 degrees F, reduce mixing and
delivery time from 1 1/2 hours to 75 minutes. When air temperature is above 90
degrees F, reduce mixing and delivery time to 60 minutes.
B. Project Site Mixing: Measure, batch, and mix concrete materials and concrete
according to ASTM C 94. Mix concrete materials in appropriate drum -type batch
machine mixer.
1. For mixer capacity of 1 cubic yard or smaller, continue mixing at least 1 1/2
minutes, but not more than 5 minutes after ingredients are in mixer, before any
part of batch is released.
2. For mixer capacity larger than 1 cubic yard, increase mixing time by 15 seconds
for each additional 1 cubic yard.
C. Provide batch ticket for each batch discharged and used in the work, indicating project
identification name and number, date, mix type, mix time, quantity, and amount of

PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 INSTALLATION, GENERAL
A. Formwork: Design, construct, erect, shore, brace, and maintain formwork according to
ACI 301.
B. Vapor Retarder: Install, protect, and repair vapor retarder sheets according to
ASTM E 1643. Place sheets in position with longest dimension parallel with direction
of pour.
1. Lap joints 6 inches and seal with manufacturer's recommended tape.
2. Cover vapor retarder with fine - graded granular material, moisten, and compact
with mechanical equipment to elevation tolerances of plus 0 -inch (0- millimeter) or
3/4 -inch.
C. Steel Reinforcement: Comply with CRSI's "Manual of Standard Practice" for
fabricating, placing, and supporting reinforcement.
1. Do not cut or puncture vapor retarder. Repair damage and reseal vapor retarder
before placing concrete.
D. Joints: Construct joints true to line with faces perpendicular to surface plane of
concrete.
1. Construction Joints: Locate and install so as not to impair strength or
appearance of concrete at locations indicated or as approved by Architect.
2. Isolation Joints: Install joint filler strips at junctions with slabs -on -grade and
vertical surfaces, such as column pedestals, foundation walls, grade beams, and
other locations, as indicated.
a. Extend joint fillers full width and depth of joint, terminating flush with
. finished concrete surface, unless otherwise indicated.
3. Contraction Joints in Slabs -on- Grade: Form weakened plane contraction joints,
sectioning concrete into areas as indicated. Construct contraction joints for a
depth equal to at least one - fourth of the concrete thickness, as follows:
a. Grooved Joints: Form contraction joints after initial floating by grooving
and finishing each edge of joint with groover tool to a radius of 1/8 -inch.
Repeat grooving of contraction joints after applying surface finishes.
Eliminate groover marks on concrete surfaces.
b. Sawed Joints: Form contraction joints with power saws equipped with
shatterproof abrasive or diamond - rimmed blades. Cut 1/8-inch wide joints
into concrete when cutting action will not tear, abrade, or otherwise
damage surface and before concrete develops random contraction cracks.
E. Tolerances: Comply with ACI 117, "Specifications for Tolerances for Concrete
Construction and Materials."
3.2 CONCRETE PLACEMENT
A. Comply with recommendations in ACI 304R for measuring, mixing, transporting, and
placing concrete.
B. Do not add water to concrete during delivery at the project site or during placement.

system.
F. Trowel and Fine Broom Finish: Apply a partial trowel finish, stopping after second
troweling, to surfaces indicated and to surfaces where ceramic or quarry tile is to be
installed by either thickset or thin -set methods. Immediately after second troweling,
and when concrete is still plastic, slightly scarify surface with a fine broom.

G. Nonslip Broom Finish: Apply a nonslip broom finish to surfaces indicated, and to
exterior concrete platforms, steps and ramps. Immediately after float finishing, slightly
roughen trafficked surface by brooming with fiber bristle broom perpendicular to main
traffic route.
3.5 CONCRETE PROTECTION AND CURING
A. General: Protect freshly placed concrete from premature drying, and excessive cold or
hot temperatures. Comply with ACI 306.1 for cold weather protection and follow
recommendations in ACI 305R for hot weather protection during curing.
B. Evaporation Retarder: Apply evaporation retarder to concrete surfaces if hot, dry, or
windy conditions occur before and during finishing operations. Apply according to
manufacturer's written instructions after placing, screeding, and bull floating or darbying
concrete, but before float finishing.
C. Begin curing after finishing concrete, but not before free water has disappeared from
concrete surface.
D. Cure formed and unformed concrete for at least 7 days as follows:
1. Moisture Curing: Keep surfaces continuously moist with water.
2. Moisture - Retaining Cover Curing: Cover concrete surfaces with moisture -
retaining cover for curing concrete, placed in widest practicable width, with sides
and ends lapped at least 12 inches, and sealed by waterproof tape or adhesive.
Immediately repair any holes or tears during curing period using cover material
and waterproof tape.
3. Curing Compound: Apply uniformly in continuous operation by power spray or
roller according to manufacturer's written instructions. Recoat areas subjected to
heavy rainfall within 3 hours after initial application. Maintain continuity of coating
and repair damage during curing period.
3.6 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
A. Testing Agency: Owner will engage a Qualified Independent Testing and Inspecting
Agency to sample materials, perform tests, and submit test reports during concrete
placement. Tests will be performed according to ACI 301.
B. Continuous Field Inspection: The Independent Testing Agency shall be present at all
times during the placing of structural reinforced concrete. Work shall not proceed until
all inspections are completed. Prior to placing concrete, the Inspector shall inspect:
1. Accuracy, configuration, and cleanliness of all formwork
2. Quantity, cleanliness, and placement of all reinforcing steel.
C. Concrete Sampling: Testing of composite samples of fresh concrete obtained
according to ASTM C 172 shall be performed according to the following requirements:
1. Testing Frequency: One composite sample for each day's pour of each concrete
mix exceeding 5 cubic yards, but less than 25 cubic yards, plus one set for each
additional 100 cubic yards or fraction thereof.
2. Testing Frequency: At least one composite sample for each 100 cubic yards or
fraction thereof of each concrete mix placed each day.
3. Compression Test Specimens: ASTM C 31/C 31M; cast and laboratory cure one
set of four standard cylinder specimens for each composite sample.

cylinder specimens as may be requried for the construction process.
Number of specimens and testing age shall be determined by the
Contractor based on construction sequence requirements.
4. Compressive Strength Tests: ASTM C 39; test two laboratory -cured specimens
at 7 days and two at 28 days.
a. Test field -cured specimens at the Contractor's direction.
b. Test two field -cured specimens at 7 days and two at 28 days.
C. A compressive strength test shall be the average compressive strength
from two specimens obtained from same composite sample and tested at
age indicated.
D. Reinforcement Welding: All shop and field welds of reinforcing steel will be inspected.
The Special Welding Inspector will check the materials and equipment, the
qualifications and ability of the welder, and details of construction and procedure, as
well as the welds themselves. The Inspector may use gamma ray, magneflux,
trepanning, ultrasonics, or any other aid to visual inspection which the Inspector may
deem necessary to determine the adequacy of the welding.
E. No concrete shall be placed until placement of reinforcement steel has been inspected
and approved. Provide 48 hours notice to the Inspector prior to placing concrete.

treatment's safety under latest EPA regulations. You may propose other method's for
Architect's acceptance. Owner and Architect do not assume responsibility for unknown
damages possibly inherent in treatment process.
2.3 DIMENSION LUMBER
A. General: Provide dimension lumber of sizes shown on drawings according to the
American Lumber Standards Committee National Grading Rule provisions of the
grading agency indicated.
1. Western woods; WCLIB or WWPA.

STRUCTURAL NOTES
CODE REQUIREMENTS: All design and construction shall conform to the requirements of the
International Building Code, 2003 Edition.
DESIGN LOADS: In addition to the dead loads, the following loads were used for design:
Roof 30 psf LL
Floors 60 psf LL
Earthquake and wind forces are determined per IBC 2003.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS: Contractor shall verify all dimensions, and existing conditions in the field
before proceeding. Contractor shall notify the Architect of any discrepancies or field changes prior
to installation or fabrication. In case of discrepancies between the existing conditions and the
drawings, the Contractor shall obtain direction from the Architect before proceeding. Noted
dimensions take precedence over scaled dimensions - -DO NOT SCALE DRAWINGS.
Contractor shall verify all existing conditions before commencing any demolition. Contractor shall
provide adequate shoring and bracing of all structural members and existing construction, as
required, and in a manner suitable to the work sequence. Temporary shoring and bracing shall not
be removed until all final connections have been completed in accordance with the drawings and
materials have achieved design strength.
Contractor shall be responsible for all safety precautions and the methods, techniques, sequences
or procedures required to perform the work.
CONCRETE: Concrete work shall conform to all requirements of Chapter 19 of the International
Building Code. Concrete mixes shall conform to the following: f c = 3000 psi.
SAWN LUMBER: Sawn lumber shall conform to "Grading and Dressing Rules," West Coast Lumber
Inspection Bureau (WCLIB), latest edition. All sawn lumber to be #2 Hem —Fir, preservative — treated
per the specifications.
Framing accessories and structural fasteners shall be as manufactured by Simpson Company (or
approved equal), and of the size and type shown on the drawings. All other framing nails shall be
common nails and shall be of the size and number indicated on the drawings. Nailing not shown
shall be as indicated on Table 2304.9.1 of the IBC.
PLYWOOD: Plywood panels shall conform to the requirements of the latest edition of "U.S. Product
Standard PS -1 for Construction and Industrial Plywood." Each panel shall bear the APA grade
trademark of the American Plywood Association. Plywood shall be as follows:
Shear Wall Sheathina: 1/2" 32/16 C —D INT APA with Exterior Glue (CDX)
Shear wall sheathing shall be blocked with 2x framing at all panel edges, unless noted otherwise.
Floor diaphragm and shear wall nails shall be driven flush, but shall not fracture the surface of
sheathing. Nailing not shown shall be as indicated on Table 2304.9.1 of the IBC. All nails shall be
common.
