BID AWARD
ISSUE
Award the bid for construction of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Improvements to Iron Creek Construction in
the amount of $84,450.00.
BACKGROUND
This is a new annual program that was created in 2013 to address City facilities which are not in compliance with the
ADA. The 2013/2014 project will provide pedestrian access ramp repairs at multiple locations on Tukwila International
Blvd (TIB) and one location on S 180th St. The project also includes the replacement of the actuated in- pavement
flashing light crosswalk on TIB near S 152nd St (Taco Bell /KFC) with an actuated Rectangular Rapid Flash Beacon
System.
The project was advertised for bids on December 19 and 26, 2013. Eight (8) bids were received and opened on
January 9, 2013. The lowest bid of $84,450.00 was received from Iron Creek Construction, LLC. The Engineer's
estimate was $98,700.00.
ANALYSIS
The bids were reviewed and tabulated. No errors were discovered in any of the eight bids received. References from
previous projects that Iron Creek Construction had completed for other agencies received positive feedback.
BUDGET AND BID SUMMARY
This project was designed and advertised based on the 2013 construction budget that should have been carried over
into the 2014 budget.

RECOMMENDATION
The Council is being asked to award the construction bid for the 2013/2014 ADA Improvements to Iron Creek
Construction in the amount of $84,450.00 and consider this item on the Consent Agenda at the February 3, 2014
Regular Meeting.

PROJECT: Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Improvements Project No. 91210405
DESCRIPTION: Construct ADA compliant upgrades to City infrastructure in conjunction with a City developed plan.
JUSTIFICATION: The enforcement of ADA laws and standards was delayed pending legal challenges and studies. Recent
court rulings now mandate ADA compliance. The City must provide upgrades with most construction projects.
STATUS: Provide annual funding to construct improvements as necessary. For 2013, develop a citywide plan with
design and construction of the 1 of the 2 major crosswalks on Tukwila International Blvd.
MAINT. IMPACT: Negligible.
COMMENT: Project will be ongoing until City facilities and infrastructure meet ADA requirements. Only one year actuals
shown in first column.
